Saying good-bye

Dear fans,

GoodbyeToday is definitely a tough day for me, as I'm making it official -- at the end of the season, I'm retiring from baseball and saying good-bye to this great game that I love.

This is definitely an emotional day and it's going to be an emotional last two months of the season. The only thing I can really say to you, the fans, is thank you.

I think I said at the beginning of this year that this season was all about my family and the fans. The fans have been great to me. I tried to play the game the right way, and I believe I did. You have been so supportive of me, and I want to thank you for 20 unbelievable seasons. For me, it's definitely been a storybook career.

There are so many things I'm going to miss. I'm going to miss the relationships I have with my teammates, that I have with the clubhouse workers. People like Dennis Liborio, our equipment manager, and Barry Waters, the traveling secretary. They've been with the team throughout my entire career, as have others. Those are the people you worked with every day for the last 20 years -- the guys that continue to make fun of each other for whatever we do, the people who just made the job fun.

I'm going to miss standing on the field for the national anthem. I think over 20 years, I've missed maybe three or four. I'm going to  miss that. I'm going to miss the competition of the game, the excitement of the game, not knowing what's going to happen. You work so hard all season long for the opportunity to get into the postseason -- I'm going to miss that, too.

I'll miss the whole aspect of the game itself. Stepping into the batter's box and not know how your day's going to go, whether it's going to be good or bad. That's why you go out there and play. You appreciate the different cities, the different ballparks, the history of certain organizations. And the players you're competing with, and against.

I've been honored to play this game, to play it the right way. To me, I did play it the right way and that makes me feel good. I'm going to miss it. This is what I do. This is my living. I've been honored to play the game, the greatest game, and one of the hardest games to ever play. I'm going to miss it a lot.

I've been so blessed to have played for one team my entire career. That means a lot, especially in this day and age where there's no loyalty from players or management anymore. It was great that Jeff Bagwell and I could both work that out. There's been loyalty, from three sides. It's from our side, from management's side and the fans' side. If the fans didn't come out and support us, and watch us play, would it have lasted as long as it did? Probably not. That makes you feel appreciated because they are part of it. They're part of the decision making.

One of the best parts about this game is interacting with kids. Baseball is a kid's game, and kids, to me ... that's what it's all about. That's what life's all about. To be able to touch their lives, no matter how you do it, whether it's signing an autograph or going to a hospital, has been a privilege.Anotherwave_2

You only get one chance to make a first impression. You might be having a bad day, or week or whatever it is, but you're only going to get that one chance to make an impression on a child. If you're a jerk, that kid's going to walk away thinking you're a jerk. That always stuck with me. No matter how you're feeling, if you're meeting somebody always be respectful and be nice and that's the impression they're going to have on you. I tried to live by that.

Speaking of kids, I couldn't write this farewell letter without mentioning The Sunshine Kids. My retirement does not mean the end of my affiliation with them. We'll continue to have the annual golf tournament. It's driven by the fans. We've raised almost $2.5 million and the fans give that money. They believe in the kids and they support it and we'll always have it. As long as I'm in Houston, we'll always have it.

The Sunshine Kids will always be part of my life. That's the one part I'm excited about -- now I'll get an opportunity to spend even more time with them. Maybe go on a couple of trips that they go on and do the different things they do that we're raising money for. That's going to be an exciting time in my life.

Now that I've made the final decision to retire, I'm at peace with it and I'm at peace with how things have gone for me. I'm in a good place. I can play for another year or two, and I don't think it would be that hard for me. But I have a responsibility to my family now. My kids are getting older. Now it's time say thank you and really be around my family at home.

A lot of guys don't get the opportunity to write their own story and walk away when they want to walk away. A lot of times, it's taken away or sometimes guys stay too long. I don't want that. I want the fans' memory of me to be as a guy who, even though I don't play like I did when I was 28 years old, I'm still doing a pretty darn good job of playing the game the way I can play it. That's what I want them to remember.

It couldn't get any better than it did on June 28, when I reached my 3,000th hit. It can't get any better than that, other than winning the World Series. That was the greatest day of my life and my family's life. That's what I want the fans to remember.

That's why I feel I'm in a good place. I'm happy with my decision to retire. I'm proud of it. But I know the next couple of months are going to be very, very hard for me. It's sad that each time as you get closer and closer to the end, the realization hits you that you're not going to be putting on the uniform and going between the lines anymore.

I'm glad I'm announcing this now, because it'll give me time to say good-bye to the fans and for the fans to say good-bye to me. I hope I'll see you at the ballpark before the year's up. I thank you for letting me in and opening up your lives to me.

It's been an unbelievable ride.

Thanks Craig for the memories, Also thanks for the killer B's.

All the way from France, thank you for being the player you are. I discovered baseball in Houston in 92, during a student exchange. I have been a faithfull Astros fan since then, even though I live so far away.I traveled abroad this spring and was lucky to go to 2 games in Houston.
I have never known baseball without number 7,I'll miss you, it will be strange not seing you on the field.

Enjoy your life, home with your family.

Helene

Craig, I'm not a Houston fan at all, I bleed blue for my Yankees, but you have been one of the best and classiest players baseball has seen, and you deserve to get into the Hall Of Fame five after you retire. You have always been a player I liked watching whenever the Yankee game wasn't on, and it was fun watching as well. It's good to see you're going out on top instead of delaying until you make yourself look bad at the end. Congrats on the 3,000th hit, and for a great career.

Craig what can i say youve had an amazing career in houston and i appreciate everything you did for the astros organization. I know this decision has to come someday but when it comes it makes you sad but i know you have to do it.I want to thank you for all of the memories they were graceful. Thank you and good luck the rest of your life.
--Rachel--

Also when you make it to cooperstown i have to be there craig.

Craig, You are truly a class act and you will be missed. You are also a dying breed as I doubt there will be very few players to stay and succeed with the same team for 20 seasons. As a long time fan of my lowly Pirates, it was a pleasure to see you play in person many times. Congrats on reaching the milestone of 3000+ hits in your career.

I wish you the best of luck in your future. Here's hoping that you stay in baseball in a coaching position. I know you have a lot of knowledge to pass onto these younger players.

Best of luck to you!

Don - Key West, FL

Thanks for all the hustle the past 20 years, it seems like that's becoming a rarity nowadays. There's so many good memories - the 3-run walk-off home run against Robb Nen in 1995, the 3-run shot of Wagner in 2005, 146 runs in 1997, dominating Orel Hershiser over the years, and, of course, June 28, the best game I've ever been to.

But you know you still have the most important record in sports to break, that 104-yr old HBP record. Here's looking forward to #288!

You have been an Astro for almost as long as I have been watching baseball. I was born and raised a Houston fan and your name has been synonymous with that organization for a long time. Thanks for playing so hard for so long. We'll miss you.

Bidge,

On my ninth birthday, I (and 10 of my friends) watched your very first game as an Astros in the Dome. Now, nineteen years later, at the age of 28, I will watch your last. You have been a true inspiration and hero to the City of Houston for your entire career.

We will never forget how you turned down more money to stay in Houston, how you restructured your contract to make room for other players, how you switched positions on command for the good of the Team, or how you ran out even the most routine of ground balls.

You play baseball the way it should be played. You are an inspiration to Little Leaguers and Major Leagures alike.

It has been a great ride and we have been lucky to have you. Now, enjoy your retirement. See you at the ballpark.

Craig, I would like to thank you for the pleasure of watching you play baseball for the past 20 years. You are the kind of player all MLB players should strive to be.

I would also like to thank Patty for sharing her husband & Conor, Cavan, & Quinn for sharing their father with us.

I look forward to watching your induction into the Hall of Fame.

Seeing you play this year reminds me of Stan Musial final trip through Colt Stadium in 1963. The fans recognized they were seeing a Great of the Game play for a last time.

It is interesting to note the people you are passing on the hit list. You tied Roberto Clemente when you hit 3,000. The names on the list were great ballplayers.

From the day I was introduced to baseball, there's always been 2 constants for me: Biggio and Bagwell. I appreciate all of your hard work from day one ahd wish you luck in life after baseball.
There is really only one thing left to say: Thank You.

David

I never had a chance to play baseball, to so much as pick up a glove... but watching you and a rare few players like you taught me to love and respect the game.
You've been everything a fan could ask for, and more, for twenty years. As a player and as a human being you've earned our respect and admiration. But I don't think I'll ever love you more than I did today, watching that press conference, as you thanked your beautiful family and simply said "I want to be home." So all I can say is, I'll be seeing you before you go! This weekend, next week, and the next and the next... at the park or on the TV, I'm not going to miss an at-bat. Play on, have fun, and God bless you.

Thank you for everything you have done for this city and for playing with heart. It has been so much fun rooting for you these past 20 years! Best Wishes

Thanks Craig for the excitement that you have added to the game of baseball. I am one of the biggest Astro fans and it will not be the same without you. Enjoy your time with your family and hope you will sty part of the organization.

I have been an Astros fan for as long as I can remember, as have my family. I can't think of a greater fan of yours as my mother was. Up until she died last December, she always supported you. When we would be able to go the game, we always asked her if she wanted us to bring her home something. Her answer was always the same "I need a new hat or t-shirt and it has to Biggio's." She hardly missed a game on tv and when you were up to bat, no one could interrupt the moment. I just wanted to share this with you because even though she is physically not here, I know that she is watching you and the rest of the team from Heaven. Good luck in retirement and know that you are loved and will be missed.

Thank you,

Beckie Rodriguez

Craig, I want to take this opportunity to thank you!! It has been such a blessing to have an athlete who has shown that you do not have to give up family values to play the game you love. We have a 21 yr son who has watched you play his entire life and a 6 yr old that will only get to hear the "remember whens"! We have been fans since the beginning and will miss you! We wish you and your family the best and God Bless you!

Bidge,
I have followed your career from day 1. I can't believe 20 years have come and gone...and man were they great! Hall of fame, no doubt! I can't imagine the Astros without you. I can't imagine baseball without you. You will be greatly missed. God bless you and your family.

THANK YOU,

Kandi

LaPorte, Texas

B-G-O for ever!!!!

Congratulations on a great career!

Wow - What can I say...Bidge, we are gonna miss you so much next year and for years to come. You exemplify what baseball SHOULD be about - Playing the game fairly, honestly and with the utmost respect for the game. No flash, no big endorsements, no attitude - Just good old fashioned baseball and a really great person to boot. THANK YOU Bidge for all that you have done for the city of Houston and the Astros, and that you for putting the love of baseball in my heart forever!

Mr. Biggio, you are an amazing player, person and just a general great guy. You make me look forward to watching the games each year, you will truly be missed. The Astros will not be the same without you and without Bagwell. I wish you the best of luck. Know that we will all be feeling your sadness at leaving the game and we will miss seeing you in that uniform on the field!

Thank you for all you have done for the city of Houston and for the Astros organization.

Bidge,
It has been a fantastic ride! Thank you for ALWAYS working hard for the team! I have NEVER seen you play a full game & leave with a clean uniform!! Your honesty, work ethic, determination, and loyalty are a rare commodity.

I WILL take my kids to 1 more Astros game this year to witness the best player to wear our colors!

Also, do you really WANT to break the HBP record? :)

May God bless your future endeavors, Keith

I have been an Astros fan for a long time. My parents would take us a kids to the dome to watch the games. When you came to the team both my mother and father loved to watch you play. They loved the way you played and loved to kids. You never changed will being a pro player. They both passed away at the end of last year. You will be missed. You are the greatest Astro ever. My entire family loves you and have enjoyed watching.

Thanks.. One word sais it all. In today's era of sports, with all the alleged performance enhancing drugs, dogfighting, and gambling. You did things the right way. You plsyed the game the way it should be played. Yes it's a career and a way to support your familly, but you also understood it was a game, and one you loved to play. It showed. You and Bags are both class act's. Thanks again. I'm still trying to envision the team next year without either one of you, and it's not easy.

Thanks!!! I can remember your rookie year, i was about ten years old then. I collected all your baseball cards. My Dad and I would root for you everytime you got up to bat. Your character and dedication to this game and team is unremarkable. Thank you for the memories. The best memory for me will be the night you got 3000. I was there with my own son's, it was awesome.

CRAIG

WE HAVE GROWN UP TOGETHER YOU CAME IN BASEBALL WHEN I WAS 13 AND NOW MY SON IS 12

HOW MANY 32 AND 12 YEAR OLDS DO YOU KNOW WHO HAVE THE SAME HEROS IN LIFE

YOU ARE A GREAT PERSON AND FATHER AND BOTH OF US HAD TEARS OF JOY AT 3000 AND WILL BOTH BE GOING TO HALL OF FAME FOR THE FIRST TIME WHEN YOU GO IN --- I HAVE OFFICIALLY RETIRED THE NUMBER 7 AT MY HOUSE

JEFF AND BRAD MADDOX

Thanks for all the wonderful years of watching you. You will greatly missed. Astros baseball will not be the same. Good Luck to you and your family.

Craig, I want to take this opportunity to thank you!! Even though I am a St. Louis fan, we have had our share a great games between us. You are a class act. Congrats on your 3,000 hit, well deserved. I wish you the best of luck in your future, enjoy your family, but I hope I will still see you involved in baseball, cause you have so much knowledge you will do this sport well in any position you work at. THANK YOU. Dennis-Ft. Riley, Ks

Thank you Craig..I grew up outside of Pittsburgh Pa. My grandpa took me to Pirate games all through the 1960's at Forbes Field. I saw Clemente, Stargell, Mazeroski and Clendenon play almost every Sunday. I loved my Grandpa so much that baseball has been my life since then. I'm 57 years old now and moved to Houston 8 years ago. I love the Astro's, and you, Craig, are in the class with the men I saw play in Pittsburgh 40 years ago. Astro fans will miss you..I will miss you..Holly Bukac

WOW!!!!! Everyone has already said it all. You are just one of those rare players that still play FOR LOVE OF THE GAME!!! I as a lot of other people have grown up watching you and Bags and it is gonna be sad not seeing you out there on the field giving it your all as you always have done no matter where you were playing between the lines!!! Thank you for the memories and the loyality you will greatly be missed!!
Thanks once again, from Michelle & the Staff of the b.u.s......

Craig, you are truly one of the best players in baseball on and off the field. You will truly be missed. You are the reason I am an Astros fan.

Craig--I just want to say thanks for all the years. I have watched what games I could (I'm a Dodger fam!) and kept up with your stats. I always liked catchers (a fav was Steve Yeager), because of their total involvement in the game! You did the position proud. Hope to hear about you coaching one day.
Congratulation and the best of luck. Hope you are playing Aug 15th at Dodger Stadium. I'll be clapping...

biggio- i am 18 years old and probably your biggest fan in north carolina. i have been following the astros since i can remember. when i was a baby i had an astros shirt, and you have always been my favorite player. i still proudly wear my astros shirts up here in braves country and people always ask me why im not a braves fan and i always tell them that im an astros fan because of the great players like you and bagwell. i am originally from texas but then when i moved up to north carolina i still took every chance i had to watch you play on tv and when ya'll went to the world series it was amazing and it was so great to see you finally get there. every year i come down to houston for about 3 weeks to see family and every year i go to all the home games during the 3 weeks. i was there when you hit your 3000th hit and it was an amazing moment. i will never forget that game. you definately deserved that standing ovation and you have deserved the B-G-O. you are truely an amazing baseball player and it has been amazing watching you play every year and its sad that your leaving but i definately can understand your reasoning. your a great player and person and its going to be sad to not see you on second base anymore. its going to be wierd not seeing you wear the jersey on the field because i have grown up with you being an astro. my entire family loves you and we will all miss you, but we wish you the best of luck and hopefully this year wont be the last we see of you. and no matter what you will always be my favorite astro.

Craig,

Players like you are a in a league thier own. I know that I don't personally know you, but over the years every spring it was like a friend was coming for a visit.

I live in Tampa now but grew up in Houston and remember my first trip to see you play at the dome. Trips to Spring Training will be different for sure.

I am about to have a son and when teaching him about work ethic, principals and the way baseball is meant to be played, you'll be the example.

There is no doubt you will see the hall on your first pass.

God bless you and your family, and thanks for all the memories.

Craig - Thanks for the memories you have given the Houston Astros fans over the last twenty years. Thanks for being a great role model; for doing your job with integrity; and being so generous with your time, talents and resources to help the Sunshine Kids and others in the Houston community. Your true love of the game and drive to do it the right way is why so many love you and will truly miss you in an Astros uniform. The game won't be the same without you. You and Bagwell are what made me an Astros fan years ago -you're my boys and anyone that went to a game with me knew it! But I respect and admire you for wanting to spend time with your family and going out on top. Enjoy them and know your fans love and appreciate all you have done for the city of Houston. Thank you and God bless you!

Craig, you a truly amazing baseball player and person. I am 20 years old, and as far back as I can remember, I knew your name. We even camed a puppy Biggio once. Today when I watched your press conference, I couldn't help but cry. I love how you play the game, how much you love, and that you have stuck with your team through all the years. I can only hope that young players like Pence can follow your example and help this team as you did. You will be truly missed by everyone, whether they are an Astros fan or not. You are an icon! Wish you all the best with your family and life!

Mr. Biggio,
Thank you for everything you've given to the fans in this city. As much as you seem to appreciate us, I sure hope you realize how much we appreciate you. I've spent the majority of my adult life watching you play in an Astros uniform. As weird as it's been without #5 in the lineup, it'll be weirder without #7. Enjoy your family, and I have no doubt we'll see you in some form or fashion in the Astros organization in the future.

Craig,

Thank you for all the amazing sights and sounds. You are the greatest Astro of all time. Hope you make it to the Hall of Fame.

As a young kid my favorite Astros were Bill Doran and Glenn Davis. Then came the Killer B's. You and Bagwell will always be my favorite Astros. Thank you so much. Many of my fondest memories include you, the Astros team, and my family together.

God Bless,

Chuck

Craig,

You deserve to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame. My vote doesn't count but I wish it did!!! Playing college baseball myself and being a catcher I was so glad to see you switch to the infield! You are a rare talent to do so and your team was behind you in all that you have done for the game!! God bless you and your family, I will cherish the memories of your career!!

Eric

BGO our family watched your press conference to retire today with tears. You are a baseball god in our house even before the 3000 hits. Thank you for all the great memories. Your class, your loyalty to the team and your fans is almost unheard of in professional sports these days. You are the best and we will miss you! The Schultz family Your fans!

See ya in Cooperstown Craig. You have definitely made it a pleasure and an honor to be an Astros fan.

b

Bidge--You are an outstanding baseball player and a truely wonderful person and have given everything to the Astros organization and your fans. You are loved by so many for everything you have done in your 20 year career. I proudly wear my No. 7 jersey when I attend games and have watched you and Baggie from the start. Thank you for the great memories. You will certainly be missed "Between the Lines" next year. I will always be an Astros fan but it has not been the same without Bagwell and next year will be more difficult without either of you. Good Luck and God Bless you and your family. And thank you to Patty and your children for sharing you with us, your dedicated fans.

I remember your first hit against Orel and I remember thinking this rookie can hit. Of course so many years later you made that an understatment. I remember being at the Dome and you hit two home runs, I almost got one of them. The memories are vast and what you and Bagwell did for this franchise will never be forgotten by me or for that matter any Astro Fan. Thank you...And thank you for your dedication to children with cancer. You are an honorable person. Thank you....

wow
first off good luck! i was at the Pittsburgh game just recently when you guys were there but we didnt get to see you play. you came out to help catch and my mom and i went crazy. ive been watching you for my whole life. ive enjoyed every second of it to. Thank you for being who you are and help with the sunshine kids i bet my brother appreciated that. My dad started crying when you hit your 3,000 hit on the internet and he said "we should of been there for that" but we moved to Pittsburgh. once again good luck hope all is well

I will ALWAYS be a fan

Hannah

Thank you for 20 years of memories! You've proven time and again that you have more integrity than most players. Enjoy your retirement as you've really earned it, but always know that you are going to be sorely missed!

Biggo

Just want to say thanks for the years u have gave the us the Houston fans. God Bless you and your family.

Craig Biggio,
GOD, baseball, and family. These words speak volumes of what makes Craig Biggio a Hall of Fame person(three categories).

Goodbye

The 2007 Season truly is the end of the good guys. Houston Baseball will never be the same.

Craig,

The minute you came on the scene 20 years ago, I fell in love with baseball all over again. I just could tell here's a guy who gets it - it's a game.

You've been my all time favorite player since that first season. It will be difficult to watch my home team without number 7 between the lines.

You have played the game the right way and should feel proud of the role model yoou've become for kids. I'm glad mine have had the opportunity to see the best.

All my best wishes for your future endeavors. Lead on BGO!! You will be missed!

Love ya - Cherie Hester

Craig,
You have been a joy to watch play all of these years.

You will go down in history as one of the greatest players of all time.

I have been and am proud to have had you represent Houston and the Astros.

Always remember in this town you are loved!

Good Luck and God Bless!

Dear Mr. Biggio,
Thank you for all that you have done for The Astros and the City of Houston. I am 13 years old and you have inspired me to give it my all 100% of the time, whether I'm playing softball or I'm at school. You are going to be a baseball legend. Congratulations on the 3,000th hit!!! See you in Cooperstown!!!

♥ Katie B. ♥

Craig,

Having grown up in Houston, and goign to my first game at the Astrodome when I was little, I've always enjoyed watching you play baseball the way it was meant to be played. It didnt matter where or how you hit the ball, I always would see you legging out every one of them.

I even watched you hit a homerun to win the first game that I went to, which went into extra innings.

Mr. Biggio, thank you for being the player that you were for 20 years and I'll miss seeing you play.

Mr. Biggio,
I am a Cubs fan first, but I have to say I've enjoyed watching you play, even when my Cubs can't get you out! What a great career you've had, but your numbers aren't what I think of first. You play the game the right way, hard and clean and giving 100%. Your charitable work and class have given more to the city of Houston than could be easily mentioned. Thanks for all of your contributions and I'll move Heaven and Earth to attend your HOF induction. Congrats on a great career.

Craig it us that THANK YOU! I have followed your entire career. We THANK YOU for every memorable moment we have recieved from you over that last 20 yrs. I miss you already. Tonight when you received the standing ovation at your first bat I stood in front of my TV and cried like a Baby! I have followed the Astros Team since the Colt 45s and I can tell you Biggio/Bagwell did wonders for this organization. Again Thank you and you will be dearly missed!! Best of luck for the rest of your life. See you in Cooperstown! Look over your shoulder you might just see me there!

Craig, thank you. I'm just few years younger than you and have followed your entire career here in Houston. In my younger days I was even told I look like you! I've always said that if I were to be a baseball player, I would play the game like Craig Biggio. You truly are the heart and soul of this team and you will be missed. I have already make plans to be there for your last game and I will be leading the pack for the many standing ovations you will no doubt receive. In my opinion, you should be a first ballot Hall of Famer, not just based on the fantastic numbers, but how you played the game. Thanks again.

Craig, for many years now when anyone asked me..."who's your favorite player"? I was always very proud to reply..."Craig Biggio", "that guy is old school"! I will continue to say the same thing when anyone asks me this question in the future. Enjoy your extra time with your family. When you make it to Cooperstown, My wife & I will buy the tickets & be there to cheer you there as well. Thnks for the memories.

Craig, Thank you for everything you've done for the Astros, playing the game the right way and being a class act. It was great seeing you play and you are a true legend. You will be dearly missed!! Thank you and we love you. You will always be the best second baseman in baseball.

Craig,
You don't have to thank us fans - we have to thank you for 20 years of being the best representative we could have ever hoped for - You & Bagwell both-I only wish others could & would follow in your footsteps and set the standards you have set for yourself. My son was a batboy back in 1986 - and long before that I have been a true Astro fan. It's been a great 20 years with you on the team....it's been a much better team with You. You will be truly missed but NEVER forgotten.

Mr. 3000

You, perhaps are one of the greatest players in the history of the game with where you rank on so many catagories. Thanks for everything you have done for Houston and south central Texas for the last 20+ years. You have set an unprecedented mark for all who come through the Astros organization. I went to Cooperstown this summer and am looking forward to going back and seeing your plaque in 5 years next to the other great players. Thanks for the memories and congrats.

Corey Murphy

Schertz, TX

Craig, I've watched you for 20 years out here in the Bay Area, and pretty much every game since DirecTV arrived. I wish everyone ran out every AB like you do, and I wish everyone cared about the game as much as you appear to do. You've earned your place in baseball history, and I've enjoyed being along for the ride. I'll plan on seeing you at Cooperstown in 2012. Congratulations, Bidge. Awesome.

P.S. Could you get Carlos and Lance to run 'em all out before you go? :)

Thanks for the fun time we had watching you play over the years. I've been a huge fan and watched you get most of the 3,000 hits. I got into baseball with my husband because I enjoyed watching the way you play the game all of these years. You are such a steady hitter and so fun to watch. I loved the 4 for 4 games you did and all the hits along the way. You're one of the best players in baseball and so glad you'll make the Hall of Fame. I knew it from the first day you started on the Astros that you were going to be a star player. I was glad you proved me right. Thanks again for the enjoyment of watching you play and congratulations for making 3,000 hits. I have an autographed bat you signed a few years back at an auction for charity here in Houston. I enjoy having it so much and it's so special to me that you signed it.

Craig,
We can't thank you enough for all you have done for Houston and for our Astros. I have been a fan all my life, and a great part of it I have spent cheering for you! I thank you for playing the game the way it is meant to be played. It's so nice to have someone to be a role model in this day and time. My greatest tribute to your way of playing is to let you know that my son, a 6-year old HUGE Astros fan whose favorite part of the game is chanting BIG-GI-O, had tears in his eyes this afternoon when you made your announcement. He had a bad day - his other favorite is HUNTER!!

Thanks again for making my "mom job" easy - you've been a great role model and a great player, and we're all going to miss you!

Becky and Rex - Spring, TX

Dear Mr.Biggio,
How do we say thank you to you and your family for all you did for our team? I now live in Va. but buy mlb extra innings so I could see you and Mr. Baggwell play. Nolan Ryan is my favorite Pitcher but you are my favorite all around player. Thank you and may God bless you and your family so ya'll can enjoy the time together ya'll deserve.

Good Luck and thank you so much.

Cindy Harris

Craig,
I was a native NYer (like yourself)and a die hard Mets fan till 4 years ago when my family and I moved here to Houston. I thought it was going to be difficult to become an Astros fan, but it wasn't because of you. Watching you play and how you put your heart and soul into every hit was and is still awe inspiring. Watching you makes the game fun, even when we are losing. I wasn't at the 3000 game, but I watched it on TV and it felt like I was there. Watching you with your teammates is incredible to see. The love you have for them and they have for you, makes the heart do good. I will missing watching you play, but know that you are now doing what you love to do other then play the game, you are being with your family and watching them grow. Just like us Houstonians who were lucky enough to have you in our lives for either 4 or 20 years, they will benefit from having you in theirs. You'll be in Cooperstown before you know it and you deserve it. We love you.

Craig;

You have made my being an Astros fan so much more enjoyable. I cannot imagine a better guy to be the icon of an organization. It means a lot that you are "our guy", that you have stayed with this team for your whole career, and that you have played the game with the same effort and determination since the first day you stepped onto the field.

You are an all around great baseball player, on and off the field. Always giving 110% while playing, and always spending time with the fans and kids when you're not playing. It means a lot that you have always been so good to the fans and the Sunshine Kids, and we love you for that.

Though it's dissapointing to know you are retiring, I couldn't be happier with your career and the way you are going out. You did everything the right way and have become such a role model. I'm happy to know that you are leaving the game because you are ready and content with your career, and not because you have to. It's great that you get to go out on such a high note and I am very happy for you.

You have made the city of Houston so proud. Good luck in life after second base, and thank you so much for all of the wonderful memories you have provided.

Lots of love and respect for you and your family.

- Jamie, 15

Craig-
Thank you very much for all of your hard work both on the baseball team and off the field. I can remember the first day you came to this organization, and I have been watching you ever since. Your hustle on the field is something I hope my son and many other sons across the land will strive to duplicate. Your leadership on the team will be missed, and it won't be the same without you. I hope that you have a great retirement, and enjoy the time with your family. See you in Cooperstown!

Mr. Biggio,
Yes, Mr. Biggio! You have conducted yourself with the utmost gentlemanly manner. When I hear you give your tribute to your wife (God Bless Her) I thought what a fortunate woman she is. Now, have some wonderful times with your family . . . you have given so many wonderful times to your fans!

Craig it has been a treat to watch you play the game. My husband and I have enjoyed watching your enthuseaism for the game. You are truly one of best players we have ever seen play the game. I remember the Colt 45's as a kid and you are always going to be right up there with my great memories of baseball games in Houston. Take care and enjoy the time you have with your family as you can never replace them. Good luck and God Bless

Pat

I have been an Astros fan since I moved to Houston in 1970 and I can honestly say that you have been my favorite of all the players. I admire your love of the game, the gritty way you play, the way you respect other players and the umpires, your integrity and, of course, your skill. You truly have done it right. Thank you for a stellar career and for being a gentleman.

Mr. Biggio,

I just want to say thank you for playing the game the way it should be played. I have been a baseball fan all my life and I appreciate players that give the effort you give night in and night out. You deserve all the praise and honors that you will be receiving - even Cooperstown! I will miss watching you play but will never forget how you played. Good luck with the next stage of your life.

Thank you,

You are truly a class act. It just won't be the same.

You truly NEVER LOST YOUR HUSTLE!

Good luck. This city loves you and is indebted.

Enjoy!

Mr Biggio- My 2 daughters play fastpitch softball, if they were boys they would certainly be baseball players. My almost 7 yr old daughter called me at work today, she was in tears and I could barely understand her. After asking her to take a deep breath and relax, she said "Mommy, Biggio is tired." I knew immediately what she meant, and was surprised by my own reaction of getting choked up. Our family loves watching you play, though we havent been to more than a handful of games, we watch every game faithfully on FSN. My 12 yr old girl cried when Baggy retired, and now I find it fitting that my youngest cried as she watched you announce yours. Congratulations on all of your achievements, you are truly an American standard. We will be attending your celebration day on 8/12, and if at all possible we will be at the 9/30 game as that was my daughters birthday wish. Her dream is to meet you and get your autograph. Thank you for all you have done for baseball, and for all of us.

As an ex high school baseball coach, I always told my players to play the game in a way that showed they respected and loved it. For 20 years you have been the model of a player that respects and loves the game of baseball. For that, I say thanks for the memories. As a lifelong Astros fan, I will always cherish the Bigg and Bags years. You guys gave the game its due and you gave the organization your lives. Best wishes in the time you will spend with your family. Thanks again for your commitment to the game and the Astros!

Craig Biggio...WOW..I have followed you since the beginning. You have always been my #1 player. What a role model you have been to everyone. And thanks for your commitment to the Houston Astros. What a way to go out..you worked hard for this goal..and we are proud of you. It just won't be the same without you. Now I must get busy and make my goal come true...meet you in person before you are HISTORY!!!! Good Luck and God Bless you.... BBeach

My family are long time Astro fans. We can remember when you first came to the Astros. We watched you over the years and it has been an honor & a pleasure to have you represent the city and the Astros organization. We were at Minute Maid for all of the playoff games in 2005 and watched the World Series on TV. Was so excited for you and Jeff to get to play in a World Series. That was so exciting. We were also at the game for your 3,000 hit and that was the most exciting game I have ever attended. Thank you & your family for all the good times over the years on and off the field. You have given so much to our community and have added a lot of joy to many peoples life. God Bless you & your family as you move on to the next step in life. You will be missed.

Craig #7,
Thank you for everything. You played AMERICA'S favorite past time the only way you knew how..the RIGHT WAY. You and Jeff are the greatest baseball players to ever play the game. You both led by example and always did the right thing, both on and off the field. I've been following your and Baggy's career since I was about 9 years old and this Saturday, I turn 19. 10 great years of Astros baseball led by you and Bags. By the way, this weekend, I'll be at both games on Saturday and Sunday (they're both day games)...so I really hope I get to see you play. It would be the greatest birthday present ever. Best of luck with everything and we'll see you in Cooperstown.

your biggest fan,

Biggio
I remember when I was ten years old and surfing through the channels. For some weird reason I stopped at an Astros game. From then on I fell in love with the game, the Astros, and BIGGIO. I have always looked foward to watch you play. I am 22 years old now and married. I even got my husband to become a BIGGIO fan. I feel very lucky to actually see you play at Minute Maid Park. Thank you for being apart of my life. We will miss watching you play. God Bless you and your family!!! And once again thank you!!! :)

Bidge;

One of the things I have always loved about you is that you understnad it is a privelage to play the game. There seems to be some players that think it is "their right" to play, and/or they take the opportunity to play for granted. You never have. You have always been greatful to play and that has stayed with you all through your career. You have respect for the game that many players do not have, and it is seen in your effort and never not giving 110%. That means a lot and it makes you a great role model for anyone.

Thanks for the memories and for playing the game the way it should be played.

Love, Jamie.

Thanks for the memories Craig. You are a class act and Astros fans in Canada are proud to have watched a future hall of famer for so many years. Enjoy your retirement.

Mark

Mr Biggio,
Words cannot describe just how much you have meant to this city, this organization, and to me as an Astros fan. You were my first Astros Buddy, and my role model as a baseball player. I have so many great memories of your career that I can not pick just one as a favorite. You have played the game the way it was meant to be played, and always did what was best for the team. You've made me proud to be a devoted Astros fan, and I will be in attendance the day you are inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Thank You for being a great person, both on and off the field.

Craig,
It's been a pleasure watching you become one of the greatest baseball players of all times. There are not many players that have your dedication to the game, your family and your faith. When we think of Astros Baseball, we think BGO. Thanks for taking us on this awesome ride! May God bless you and your family and we know your time with them will be a blessing.

BGO!
There is so much to thank you for. I've been watching Astros Baseball since highschool, back in 1978. You have consistently been my favorite player since you started with the team. Aside from your undeniable talent, you project and promote an incredible respect for your team and for the game. You are a shining example of true sporstmanship. So many atheletes today fail in their responsibility to show kids what it means to play a clean game, share in the teamwork, and lead by example on and off the field. You are one of a dying breed of professional atheletes that can prove it can be done with style and grace and that age is relative. I'm just a few years older than you are and I get so excited when I see you scrapping it up and showing up the younger guys. I'm glad you're leaving while you are on top but I am so sad to see you go. You make me very proud to be an Astro's fan! I'm going to miss you terribly. I hope we get to see you around the park from time to time. Thank you for some wonderful memories.

Bidge,
I want to start from the beginning by saying you and Bags have been all I've known. I am 22 years old and you started playing when I was 2!! I literally grew up watching you and bagwell!! You have been my idol! I used to play softball as a girl and I insisted on playing #7 or #5!! I actually modeled my performance after the way you played. I won "the fighting heart award" on my team for being the player that tried the hardest. I love baseball. Growing up watching you and bagwell made me love it!! I cant imagine an astros team without you on it. It has been so weird and so hard not seeing bags on the field with you and it will be even harder when you leave. You ARE the astros!! I cried so hard when bags left and I am crying today that you are leaving. You will be so missed!! I got the pleasure of seeing you at the past 2 canon photo days but I never got my baseball signed by you which has always been a dream of mine and now I never will.Oh what I wouldnt give to have your signature and shake your hand because you are my hero and my idol!! I will always remember you and the way you played. I hope that you decide not to part from baseball forever because I think you'd make such an excellent coach with all the knowledge and experience you have! You, bags and ausmus would make a killer coaching team!! Just because you are retiring doesnt mean you are leaving our hearts!! We will love you forever B-G-O!!Please never forget us!!!

P.S. is there a way to volunteer to help with the Sunshine Kids? I have no money to give but would love to help some other way!! If you read this please contact me somehow or have "your people" contact me :-)

As a Cub fan I sure won't miss you. You have always been one of the great Cub killers. As a baseball fan I will miss you terribly. You have always been a class act. I have been privileged to watch 2 of the all time great second basemen, Sandberg and Biggio. Cooperstown is waiting...

Bidge,
I bumped into you, literally, in the Galleria when I was about 12. I just about wet myself when I saw who I ran into. You stood there with your wife and kid in a stroller while I ran around frantically looking for something for you to sign. I still have your autograph on a colonge sample on the front page of my scrap book. I wish my kids were old enough to see you play. One thing is for sure, they will watch highlights of you when they are older. THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME HOW TO PLAY THE GAME.

Craig,

I've grown up watching Bagwell and Biggio on the Astros, and it's been hard enough to watch the game without Bagwell, but I can't imagine watching the Astros without you on the field. I've been a Biggio fan since you started playing the game because you play the game the right way - you respect it and always give it your all. I will always wear a #7 jersey to the game! I want to thank you for taking the time this March at Spring Training to sign my jersey. I waited for you after a night game, but didn't get it signed that night. The next day before practice, you took the time to stop and sign my jersey and take a picture with me. I was so overwhelmed to finally meet you that I stumbled over my words and didn't really say what I wanted to. It was the most thrilling moment of my life, and the jersey is now framed and displayed proudly in my house. Since I didn't say then what I wanted to, I hope that you'll read this and know that I greatly admire your work ethic on the field and your devotion to your family and the Sunshine Kids off the field. Thank you for so many incredible years as one of the best to ever play the game, and I plan to be in Cooperstown to see you inducted into the Hall of Fame!

Thank you for making the Astro organization what it is today! Thank you for the memories and for the records you've set. Thank you for sharing your life and career with us. You have shared so much with us and your family has had to sacrifice. I am glad they have you now. You've made us so proud and happy!!! I wish I could be in Cooperstown to see you get inducted!! I know it will happen first ballot! Thank you for everything

I loved it when you used to spit in your hat to keep from staining the carpet in The Dome.

Mr, Biggio, Mr 3000,

Killers B's!!!!

First before i get to into it Thank you Craig. As a redsoxs fan but a baseball fan in general you are what us redsoxs fan call a Dirtdog. You play hard and you bust your *** and you do whats right for the team. in the days where its all about individuals you did what was right for your team. You are baseball and i will truly miss you as a baseball fan. In my mind you are first ballot hall of famer. I will miss the days of watching you diving into home face first at the old astrodome. I hope to be out there for you last game so we can give you the proper send off with the only thing you deserve a stand ovation for 9 innings. Thanks for the memories ill always remember number 7.

hi craig: miss you already!!!! i've only been into baseball a coupler years. watching you play has made me a diehard astro fan. hope they can keep it together without you. have a good relaxing future you're earned & deserve it. from one of your biggest fans ej

Craig I have been an Astros fan since 71' and have watched you play your whole career. I was able to make it to Houston last summer to watch several live games for the 1st time. I took the tour with my son & was thrilled to see you walk up the tunnel and you took the time to shake my hand. I will never forget that & will never forget on how you played the game. I watch every game in Florida by MLB Extra Innings and also on my computer when I'm at work. I wish I could have seen you hit your 3,000 live at Minute Maid but atleast I watched it live on TV. Best of luck in all you do. Your the best and you will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! See you in Cooperstown #7 can't wait.

My earliest memories of attending Astros games at the Dome include watching you and Bagwell play. How strange it will be for me to attend games in the future and no longer see your name in the line-up. It's truly wonderful how loyal you and Bagwell have been to this team. The Yankees may have their greats in baseball history, but in my mind, you and Bagwell are two legendary players not only for the Astros but also for Major League Baseball. Thank you for 20 great years! You will definitely be missed by so many die-hard Astros fans like myself. I wish you and your family all the best!
~Stephanie, Houston, TX

Craig,
Oh how I will miss you! I have been a big fan of the Astros for the past 2 decades and it was mostly in part to you and Bags! I guess it's just fitting that w/o Jeff and now that you got your 3000th, that you end it on a high note. I was lucky enough to get your autograph back when you were just starting out and your smile even made my
