Saying good-bye
Dear fans,
Today is definitely a tough day for me, as I'm making it official -- at the end of the season, I'm retiring from baseball and saying good-bye to this great game that I love.
This is definitely an emotional day and it's going to be an emotional last two months of the season. The only thing I can really say to you, the fans, is thank you.
I think I said at the beginning of this year that this season was all about my family and the fans. The fans have been great to me. I tried to play the game the right way, and I believe I did. You have been so supportive of me, and I want to thank you for 20 unbelievable seasons. For me, it's definitely been a storybook career.
There are so many things I'm going to miss. I'm going to miss the relationships I have with my teammates, that I have with the clubhouse workers. People like Dennis Liborio, our equipment manager, and Barry Waters, the traveling secretary. They've been with the team throughout my entire career, as have others. Those are the people you worked with every day for the last 20 years -- the guys that continue to make fun of each other for whatever we do, the people who just made the job fun.
I'm going to miss standing on the field for the national anthem. I think over 20 years, I've missed maybe three or four. I'm going to miss that. I'm going to miss the competition of the game, the excitement of the game, not knowing what's going to happen. You work so hard all season long for the opportunity to get into the postseason -- I'm going to miss that, too.
I'll miss the whole aspect of the game itself. Stepping into the batter's box and not know how your day's going to go, whether it's going to be good or bad. That's why you go out there and play. You appreciate the different cities, the different ballparks, the history of certain organizations. And the players you're competing with, and against.
I've been honored to play this game, to play it the right way. To me, I did play it the right way and that makes me feel good. I'm going to miss it. This is what I do. This is my living. I've been honored to play the game, the greatest game, and one of the hardest games to ever play. I'm going to miss it a lot.
I've been so blessed to have played for one team my entire career. That means a lot, especially in this day and age where there's no loyalty from players or management anymore. It was great that Jeff Bagwell and I could both work that out. There's been loyalty, from three sides. It's from our side, from management's side and the fans' side. If the fans didn't come out and support us, and watch us play, would it have lasted as long as it did? Probably not. That makes you feel appreciated because they are part of it. They're part of the decision making.
One of the best parts about this game is interacting with kids. Baseball is a kid's game, and kids, to me ... that's what it's all about. That's what life's all about. To be able to touch their lives, no matter how you do it, whether it's signing an autograph or going to a hospital, has been a privilege.
You only get one chance to make a first impression. You might be having a bad day, or week or whatever it is, but you're only going to get that one chance to make an impression on a child. If you're a jerk, that kid's going to walk away thinking you're a jerk. That always stuck with me. No matter how you're feeling, if you're meeting somebody always be respectful and be nice and that's the impression they're going to have on you. I tried to live by that.
Speaking of kids, I couldn't write this farewell letter without mentioning The Sunshine Kids. My retirement does not mean the end of my affiliation with them. We'll continue to have the annual golf tournament. It's driven by the fans. We've raised almost $2.5 million and the fans give that money. They believe in the kids and they support it and we'll always have it. As long as I'm in Houston, we'll always have it.
The Sunshine Kids will always be part of my life. That's the one part I'm excited about -- now I'll get an opportunity to spend even more time with them. Maybe go on a couple of trips that they go on and do the different things they do that we're raising money for. That's going to be an exciting time in my life.
Now that I've made the final decision to retire, I'm at peace with it and I'm at peace with how things have gone for me. I'm in a good place. I can play for another year or two, and I don't think it would be that hard for me. But I have a responsibility to my family now. My kids are getting older. Now it's time say thank you and really be around my family at home.
A lot of guys don't get the opportunity to write their own story and walk away when they want to walk away. A lot of times, it's taken away or sometimes guys stay too long. I don't want that. I want the fans' memory of me to be as a guy who, even though I don't play like I did when I was 28 years old, I'm still doing a pretty darn good job of playing the game the way I can play it. That's what I want them to remember.
It couldn't get any better than it did on June 28, when I reached my 3,000th hit. It can't get any better than that, other than winning the World Series. That was the greatest day of my life and my family's life. That's what I want the fans to remember.
That's why I feel I'm in a good place. I'm happy with my decision to retire. I'm proud of it. But I know the next couple of months are going to be very, very hard for me. It's sad that each time as you get closer and closer to the end, the realization hits you that you're not going to be putting on the uniform and going between the lines anymore.
I'm glad I'm announcing this now, because it'll give me time to say good-bye to the fans and for the fans to say good-bye to me. I hope I'll see you at the ballpark before the year's up. I thank you for letting me in and opening up your lives to me.
It's been an unbelievable ride.
Craig Biggio
Thanks Craig for the memories, Also thanks for the killer B's.

All the way from France, thank you for being the player you are. I discovered baseball in Houston in 92, during a student exchange. I have been a faithfull Astros fan since then, even though I live so far away.I traveled abroad this spring and was lucky to go to 2 games in Houston.
I have never known baseball without number 7,I'll miss you, it will be strange not seing you on the field.
Enjoy your life, home with your family.

Craig, I'm not a Houston fan at all, I bleed blue for my Yankees, but you have been one of the best and classiest players baseball has seen, and you deserve to get into the Hall Of Fame five after you retire. You have always been a player I liked watching whenever the Yankee game wasn't on, and it was fun watching as well. It's good to see you're going out on top instead of delaying until you make yourself look bad at the end. Congrats on the 3,000th hit, and for a great career.

Craig, You are truly a class act and you will be missed. You are also a dying breed as I doubt there will be very few players to stay and succeed with the same team for 20 seasons. As a long time fan of my lowly Pirates, it was a pleasure to see you play in person many times. Congrats on reaching the milestone of 3000+ hits in your career.
I wish you the best of luck in your future. Here's hoping that you stay in baseball in a coaching position. I know you have a lot of knowledge to pass onto these younger players.
Best of luck to you!

Thanks for all the hustle the past 20 years, it seems like that's becoming a rarity nowadays. There's so many good memories - the 3-run walk-off home run against Robb Nen in 1995, the 3-run shot of Wagner in 2005, 146 runs in 1997, dominating Orel Hershiser over the years, and, of course, June 28, the best game I've ever been to.
But you know you still have the most important record in sports to break, that 104-yr old HBP record. Here's looking forward to #288!

You have been an Astro for almost as long as I have been watching baseball. I was born and raised a Houston fan and your name has been synonymous with that organization for a long time. Thanks for playing so hard for so long. We'll miss you.

Bidge,
On my ninth birthday, I (and 10 of my friends) watched your very first game as an Astros in the Dome. Now, nineteen years later, at the age of 28, I will watch your last. You have been a true inspiration and hero to the City of Houston for your entire career.
We will never forget how you turned down more money to stay in Houston, how you restructured your contract to make room for other players, how you switched positions on command for the good of the Team, or how you ran out even the most routine of ground balls.
You play baseball the way it should be played. You are an inspiration to Little Leaguers and Major Leagures alike.
It has been a great ride and we have been lucky to have you. Now, enjoy your retirement. See you at the ballpark.

Craig, I would like to thank you for the pleasure of watching you play baseball for the past 20 years. You are the kind of player all MLB players should strive to be.
I would also like to thank Patty for sharing her husband & Conor, Cavan, & Quinn for sharing their father with us.
I look forward to watching your induction into the Hall of Fame.

Seeing you play this year reminds me of Stan Musial final trip through Colt Stadium in 1963. The fans recognized they were seeing a Great of the Game play for a last time.
It is interesting to note the people you are passing on the hit list. You tied Roberto Clemente when you hit 3,000. The names on the list were great ballplayers.

From the day I was introduced to baseball, there's always been 2 constants for me: Biggio and Bagwell. I appreciate all of your hard work from day one ahd wish you luck in life after baseball.
There is really only one thing left to say: Thank You.

I never had a chance to play baseball, to so much as pick up a glove... but watching you and a rare few players like you taught me to love and respect the game.
You've been everything a fan could ask for, and more, for twenty years. As a player and as a human being you've earned our respect and admiration. But I don't think I'll ever love you more than I did today, watching that press conference, as you thanked your beautiful family and simply said "I want to be home." So all I can say is, I'll be seeing you before you go! This weekend, next week, and the next and the next... at the park or on the TV, I'm not going to miss an at-bat. Play on, have fun, and God bless you.

I have been an Astros fan for as long as I can remember, as have my family. I can't think of a greater fan of yours as my mother was. Up until she died last December, she always supported you. When we would be able to go the game, we always asked her if she wanted us to bring her home something. Her answer was always the same "I need a new hat or t-shirt and it has to Biggio's." She hardly missed a game on tv and when you were up to bat, no one could interrupt the moment. I just wanted to share this with you because even though she is physically not here, I know that she is watching you and the rest of the team from Heaven. Good luck in retirement and know that you are loved and will be missed.
Thank you,

Craig, I want to take this opportunity to thank you!! It has been such a blessing to have an athlete who has shown that you do not have to give up family values to play the game you love. We have a 21 yr son who has watched you play his entire life and a 6 yr old that will only get to hear the "remember whens"! We have been fans since the beginning and will miss you! We wish you and your family the best and God Bless you!

Wow - What can I say...Bidge, we are gonna miss you so much next year and for years to come. You exemplify what baseball SHOULD be about - Playing the game fairly, honestly and with the utmost respect for the game. No flash, no big endorsements, no attitude - Just good old fashioned baseball and a really great person to boot. THANK YOU Bidge for all that you have done for the city of Houston and the Astros, and that you for putting the love of baseball in my heart forever!

The Astros will not be the same without you and without Bagwell. I wish you the best of luck. Know that we will all be feeling your sadness at leaving the game and we will miss seeing you in that uniform on the field!
Thank you for all you have done for the city of Houston and for the Astros organization.

It has been a fantastic ride! Thank you for ALWAYS working hard for the team! I have NEVER seen you play a full game & leave with a clean uniform!! Your honesty, work ethic, determination, and loyalty are a rare commodity.
I WILL take my kids to 1 more Astros game this year to witness the best player to wear our colors!
Also, do you really WANT to break the HBP record? :)
May God bless your future endeavors, Keith

I have been an Astros fan for a long time. My parents would take us a kids to the dome to watch the games. When you came to the team both my mother and father loved to watch you play. They loved the way you played and loved to kids. You never changed will being a pro player. They both passed away at the end of last year. You will be missed. You are the greatest Astro ever. My entire family loves you and have enjoyed watching.

Thanks.. One word sais it all. In today's era of sports, with all the alleged performance enhancing drugs, dogfighting, and gambling. You did things the right way. You plsyed the game the way it should be played. Yes it's a career and a way to support your familly, but you also understood it was a game, and one you loved to play. It showed. You and Bags are both class act's. Thanks again. I'm still trying to envision the team next year without either one of you, and it's not easy.

Your character and dedication to this game and team is unremarkable. Thank you for the memories. The best memory for me will be the night you got 3000. I was there with my own son's, it was awesome.

Thank you Craig..I grew up outside of Pittsburgh Pa. My grandpa took me to Pirate games all through the 1960's at Forbes Field. I saw Clemente, Stargell, Mazeroski and Clendenon play almost every Sunday. I loved my Grandpa so much that baseball has been my life since then. I'm 57 years old now and moved to Houston 8 years ago. I love the Astro's, and you, Craig, are in the class with the men I saw play in Pittsburgh 40 years ago. Congratulation and the best of luck. Hope you are playing Aug 15th at Dodger Stadium. I'll be clapping...

biggio- i am 18 years old and probably your biggest fan in north carolina. i have been following the astros since i can remember. when i was a baby i had an astros shirt, and you have always been my favorite player. i still proudly wear my astros shirts up here in braves country and people always ask me why im not a braves fan and i always tell them that im an astros fan because of the great players like you and bagwell. i am originally from texas but then when i moved up to north carolina i still took every chance i had to watch you play on tv and when ya'll went to the world series it was amazing and it was so great to see you finally get there. every year i come down to houston for about 3 weeks to see family and every year i go to all the home games during the 3 weeks. i was there when you hit your 3000th hit and it was an amazing moment. i will never forget that game. you definately deserved that standing ovation and you have deserved the B-G-O. you are truely an amazing baseball player and it has been amazing watching you play every year and its sad that your leaving but i definately can understand your reasoning. your a great player and person and its going to be sad to not see you on second base anymore. its going to be wierd not seeing you wear the jersey on the field because i have grown up with you being an astro. my entire family loves you and we will all miss you, but we wish you the best of luck and hopefully this year wont be the last we see of you. and no matter what you will always be my favorite astro.

Craig,
Players like you are a in a league thier own. I know that I don't personally know you, but over the years every spring it was like a friend was coming for a visit.
I live in Tampa now but grew up in Houston and remember my first trip to see you play at the dome. Trips to Spring Training will be different for sure.
I am about to have a son and when teaching him about work ethic, principals and the way baseball is meant to be played, you'll be the example.
There is no doubt you will see the hall on your first pass.
God bless you and your family, and thanks for all the memories.

Craig - Thanks for the memories you have given the Houston Astros fans over the last twenty years. Thanks for being a great role model; for doing your job with integrity; and being so generous with your time, talents and resources to help the Sunshine Kids and others in the Houston community. Your true love of the game and drive to do it the right way is why so many love you and will truly miss you in an Astros uniform. The game won't be the same without you. You and Bagwell are what made me an Astros fan years ago -you're my boys and anyone that went to a game with me knew it! But I respect and admire you for wanting to spend time with your family and going out on top. Enjoy them and know your fans love and appreciate all you have done for the city of Houston. Thank you and God bless you!

Mr. Biggio,
Thank you for everything you've given to the fans in this city. As much as you seem to appreciate us, I sure hope you realize how much we appreciate you. I've spent the majority of my adult life watching you play in an Astros uniform. As weird as it's been without #5 in the lineup, it'll be weirder without #7. Having grown up in Houston, and goign to my first game at the Astrodome when I was little, I've always enjoyed watching you play baseball the way it was meant to be played. It didnt matter where or how you hit the ball, I always would see you legging out every one of them.
I even watched you hit a homerun to win the first game that I went to, which went into extra innings.
Mr. Biggio, thank you for being the player that you were for 20 years and I'll miss seeing you play.

I am a Cubs fan first, but I have to say I've enjoyed watching you play, even when my Cubs can't get you out! What a great career you've had, but your numbers aren't what I think of first. You play the game the right way, hard and clean and giving 100%. Your charitable work and class have given more to the city of Houston than could be easily mentioned. Thanks for all of your contributions and I'll move Heaven and Earth to attend your HOF induction. Congrats on a great career.

I have already make plans to be there for your last game and I will be leading the pack for the many standing ovations you will no doubt receive. You don't have to thank us fans - we have to thank you for 20 years of being the best representative we could have ever hoped for - You & Bagwell both-I only wish others could & would follow in your footsteps and set the standards you have set for yourself. My son was a batboy back in 1986 - and long before that I have been a true Astro fan. It's been a great 20 years with you on the team....it's been a much better team with You. You will be truly missed but NEVER forgotten.

Mr. 3000
You, perhaps are one of the greatest players in the history of the game with where you rank on so many catagories. Thanks for everything you have done for Houston and south central Texas for the last 20+ years. You have set an unprecedented mark for all who come through the Astros organization. I went to Cooperstown this summer and am looking forward to going back and seeing your plaque in 5 years next to the other great players. Thanks for the memories and congrats.

Craig, I've watched you for 20 years out here in the Bay Area, and pretty much every game since DirecTV arrived. I wish everyone ran out every AB like you do, and I wish everyone cared about the game as much as you appear to do. You've earned your place in baseball history, and I've enjoyed being along for the ride. I'll plan on seeing you at Cooperstown in 2012. Congratulations, Bidge. Awesome.
P.S. Could you get Carlos and Lance to run 'em all out before you go? :)

Thanks for the fun time we had watching you play over the years. I've been a huge fan and watched you get most of the 3,000 hits. I got into baseball with my husband because I enjoyed watching the way you play the game all of these years. You are such a steady hitter and so fun to watch. I loved the 4 for 4 games you did and all the hits along the way. You're one of the best players in baseball and so glad you'll make the Hall of Fame. I knew it from the first day you started on the Astros that you were going to be a star player. I was glad you proved me right. Thanks again for the enjoyment of watching you play and congratulations for making 3,000 hits. I have an autographed bat you signed a few years back at an auction for charity here in Houston. I enjoy having it so much and it's so special to me that you signed it.

Craig,
We can't thank you enough for all you have done for Houston and for our Astros. I have been a fan all my life, and a great part of it I have spent cheering for you! I thank you for playing the game the way it is meant to be played. It's so nice to have someone to be a role model in this day and time. My greatest tribute to your way of playing is to let you know that my son, a 6-year old HUGE Astros fan whose favorite part of the game is chanting BIG-GI-O, had tears in his eyes this afternoon when you made your announcement. He had a bad day - his other favorite is HUNTER!!
Thanks again for making my "mom job" easy - you've been a great role model and a great player, and we're all going to miss you!

Craig,
I was a native NYer (like yourself)and a die hard Mets fan till 4 years ago when my family and I moved here to Houston. I thought it was going to be difficult to become an Astros fan, but it wasn't because of you. Watching you play and how you put your heart and soul into every hit was and is still awe inspiring. Watching you makes the game fun, even when we are losing. I wasn't at the 3000 game, but I watched it on TV and it felt like I was there. Watching you with your teammates is incredible to see. The love you have for them and they have for you, makes the heart do good. I will missing watching you play, but know that you are now doing what you love to do other then play the game, you are being with your family and watching them grow. Just like us Houstonians who were lucky enough to have you in our lives for either 4 or 20 years, they will benefit from having you in theirs. You'll be in Cooperstown before you know it and you deserve it. We love you.

Craig;
You have made my being an Astros fan so much more enjoyable. I cannot imagine a better guy to be the icon of an organization. It means a lot that you are "our guy", that you have stayed with this team for your whole career, and that you have played the game with the same effort and determination since the first day you stepped onto the field.
You are an all around great baseball player, on and off the field. Always giving 110% while playing, and always spending time with the fans and kids when you're not playing. It means a lot that you have always been so good to the fans and the Sunshine Kids, and we love you for that.
Though it's dissapointing to know you are retiring, I couldn't be happier with your career and the way you are going out. You did everything the right way and have become such a role model. I'm happy to know that you are leaving the game because you are ready and content with your career, and not because you have to. It's great that you get to go out on such a high note and I am very happy for you.
You have made the city of Houston so proud. Good luck in life after second base, and thank you so much for all of the wonderful memories you have provided.
Lots of love and respect for you and your family.

Thank you very much for all of your hard work both on the baseball team and off the field. I can remember the first day you came to this organization, and I have been watching you ever since. Your hustle on the field is something I hope my son and many other sons across the land will strive to duplicate. Your leadership on the team will be missed, and it won't be the same without you. I hope that you have a great retirement, and enjoy the time with your family. See you in Cooperstown!

Craig it has been a treat to watch you play the game. My husband and I have enjoyed watching your enthuseaism for the game. You are truly one of best players we have ever seen play the game. I remember the Colt 45's as a kid and you are always going to be right up there with my great memories of baseball games in Houston. Take care and enjoy the time you have with your family as you can never replace them. Good luck and God Bless

I have been an Astros fan since I moved to Houston in 1970 and I can honestly say that you have been my favorite of all the players. I admire your love of the game, the gritty way you play, the way you respect other players and the umpires, your integrity and, of course, your skill. You truly have done it right. Thank you for a stellar career and for being a gentleman.

Mr Biggio- My 2 daughters play fastpitch softball, if they were boys they would certainly be baseball players. My almost 7 yr old daughter called me at work today, she was in tears and I could barely understand her. After asking her to take a deep breath and relax, she said "Mommy, Biggio is tired." I knew immediately what she meant, and was surprised by my own reaction of getting choked up. Our family loves watching you play, though we havent been to more than a handful of games, we watch every game faithfully on FSN. My 12 yr old girl cried when Baggy retired, and now I find it fitting that my youngest cried as she watched you announce yours. Congratulations on all of your achievements, you are truly an American standard. We will be attending your celebration day on 8/12, and if at all possible we will be at the 9/30 game as that was my daughters birthday wish. Her dream is to meet you and get your autograph. Thank you for all you have done for baseball, and for all of us.

As an ex high school baseball coach, I always told my players to play the game in a way that showed they respected and loved it. For 20 years you have been the model of a player that respects and loves the game of baseball. For that, I say thanks for the memories. As a lifelong Astros fan, I will always cherish the Bigg and Bags years. You guys gave the game its due and you gave the organization your lives. Best wishes in the time you will spend with your family. Thanks again for your commitment to the game and the Astros!

My family are long time Astro fans. We can remember when you first came to the Astros. We watched you over the years and it has been an honor & a pleasure to have you represent the city and the Astros organization. We were at Minute Maid for all of the playoff games in 2005 and watched the World Series on TV. Was so excited for you and Jeff to get to play in a World Series. That was so exciting. We were also at the game for your 3,000 hit and that was the most exciting game I have ever attended. Thank you & your family for all the good times over the years on and off the field. You have given so much to our community and have added a lot of joy to many peoples life. God Bless you & your family as you move on to the next step in life. You will be missed.

Craig #7,
Thank you for everything. You played AMERICA'S favorite past time the only way you knew how..the RIGHT WAY. You and Jeff are the greatest baseball players to ever play the game. You both led by example and always did the right thing, both on and off the field. I've been following your and Baggy's career since I was about 9 years old and this Saturday, I turn 19. 10 great years of Astros baseball led by you and Bags. By the way, this weekend, I'll be at both games on Saturday and Sunday (they're both day games)...so I really hope I get to see you play. It would be the greatest birthday present ever. Best of luck with everything and we'll see you in Cooperstown.

I remember when I was ten years old and surfing through the channels. For some weird reason I stopped at an Astros game. From then on I fell in love with the game, the Astros, and BIGGIO. I have always looked foward to watch you play. I am 22 years old now and married. I even got my husband to become a BIGGIO fan. I feel very lucky to actually see you play at Minute Maid Park. Thank you for being apart of my life. We will miss watching you play. God Bless you and your family!!! And once again thank you!!! :)

Bidge;
One of the things I have always loved about you is that you understnad it is a privelage to play the game. There seems to be some players that think it is "their right" to play, and/or they take the opportunity to play for granted. You never have. You have always been greatful to play and that has stayed with you all through your career. You have respect for the game that many players do not have, and it is seen in your effort and never not giving 110%. That means a lot and it makes you a great role model for anyone.
Thanks for the memories and for playing the game the way it should be played.
Love, Jamie.

Mr Biggio,
Words cannot describe just how much you have meant to this city, this organization, and to me as an Astros fan. You were my first Astros Buddy, and my role model as a baseball player. I have so many great memories of your career that I can not pick just one as a favorite. You have played the game the way it was meant to be played, and always did what was best for the team. You've made me proud to be a devoted Astros fan, and I will be in attendance the day you are inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Thank You for being a great person, both on and off the field.

There is so much to thank you for. I've been watching Astros Baseball since highschool, back in 1978. You have consistently been my favorite player since you started with the team. Aside from your undeniable talent, you project and promote an incredible respect for your team and for the game. You are a shining example of true sporstmanship. So many atheletes today fail in their responsibility to show kids what it means to play a clean game, share in the teamwork, and lead by example on and off the field. You are one of a dying breed of professional atheletes that can prove it can be done with style and grace and that age is relative. I'm just a few years older than you are and I get so excited when I see you scrapping it up and showing up the younger guys. I'm glad you're leaving while you are on top but I am so sad to see you go. You make me very proud to be an Astro's fan! I'm going to miss you terribly. I hope we get to see you around the park from time to time. Thank you for some wonderful memories.

Bidge,
I want to start from the beginning by saying you and Bags have been all I've known. I am 22 years old and you started playing when I was 2!! I literally grew up watching you and bagwell!! You have been my idol! I used to play softball as a girl and I insisted on playing #7 or #5!! I actually modeled my performance after the way you played. I won "the fighting heart award" on my team for being the player that tried the hardest. I love baseball. Growing up watching you and bagwell made me love it!! I cant imagine an astros team without you on it. It has been so weird and so hard not seeing bags on the field with you and it will be even harder when you leave. You ARE the astros!! I cried so hard when bags left and I am crying today that you are leaving. You will be so missed!! I got the pleasure of seeing you at the past 2 canon photo days but I never got my baseball signed by you which has always been a dream of mine and now I never will.Oh what I wouldnt give to have your signature and shake your hand because you are my hero and my idol!! I will always remember you and the way you played. I hope that you decide not to part from baseball forever because I think you'd make such an excellent coach with all the knowledge and experience you have! You, bags and ausmus would make a killer coaching team!! Just because you are retiring doesnt mean you are leaving our hearts!! We will love you forever B-G-O!!Please never forget us!!!
P.S. is there a way to volunteer to help with the Sunshine Kids? I have no money to give but would love to help some other way!! If you read this please contact me somehow or have "your people" contact me :-)

Bidge,
I bumped into you, literally, in the Galleria when I was about 12. I just about wet myself when I saw who I ran into. You stood there with your wife and kid in a stroller while I ran around frantically looking for something for you to sign. I still have your autograph on a colonge sample on the front page of my scrap book. I wish my kids were old enough to see you play. One thing is for sure, they will watch highlights of you when they are older. THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME HOW TO PLAY THE GAME.

Craig,
I've grown up watching Bagwell and Biggio on the Astros, and it's been hard enough to watch the game without Bagwell, but I can't imagine watching the Astros without you on the field. I've been a Biggio fan since you started playing the game because you play the game the right way - you respect it and always give it your all. I will always wear a #7 jersey to the game! I want to thank you for taking the time this March at Spring Training to sign my jersey. I waited for you after a night game, but didn't get it signed that night. The next day before practice, you took the time to stop and sign my jersey and take a picture with me. I was so overwhelmed to finally meet you that I stumbled over my words and didn't really say what I wanted to. It was the most thrilling moment of my life, and the jersey is now framed and displayed proudly in my house. Since I didn't say then what I wanted to, I hope that you'll read this and know that I greatly admire your work ethic on the field and your devotion to your family and the Sunshine Kids off the field. Thank you for so many incredible years as one of the best to ever play the game, and I plan to be in Cooperstown to see you inducted into the Hall of Fame!

My earliest memories of attending Astros games at the Dome include watching you and Bagwell play. How strange it will be for me to attend games in the future and no longer see your name in the line-up. It's truly wonderful how loyal you and Bagwell have been to this team. The Yankees may have their greats in baseball history, but in my mind, you and Bagwell are two legendary players not only for the Astros but also for Major League Baseball. What can we say? You have been a part of our lives for the past 20 years and it's gonna be hard next year not seeing you out there on 2nd base. All of my kids grew up watching you, both in person and on the television. You are one of the true icons of baseball. You were a leader on this team. Someone that the rookies could look up to as a role model and it's going to be a different team without #7 out there in the lineup. We would like to wish you the best in your future endeavors and whatever else you choose to take up in your life. Craig, Thank You!!!!For everything thing you have done for the city of Houston and the Houston Astros. I remember my 1st Astros game at the DOME. A young talent catcher name Craig Biggio was behind the plate. Jim Deshaies was the pitcher. I also remember a outfielder name Luis Gonzalez and a third base name Ken Caminitti. What a team that was in 1990. I was amazed by the way you play the game and how you gave it your all everytime at the plate or playing the field. And Im amazed what you and your wife Patty have done in the city of Houston with the Sunshine kids. You are a very special person who gives so much time to those kids. And who played the game of baseball the right way. Thanks Craig for all you have done.I love you like a brother that I never had.And I willnever ever forget June 28,2007. The 3000th hit of your career I was glad to be part of baseball history. I was happy to see you go dragged Jeff Bagwell out of the dugout. THat was a special moment that I never will forget either. You and Jeff are the Houston Astros. The two greatest Astros ever in my lifetime are Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell. I thank both you and Jeff for all the Astros memories you gave me from the Dome yeras to Minute Maid Park.I cant wait for another special day when Craig Biggio is elected to the Baseball Hall Of Fame. Hello Mr. Biggio I heard that you are retiring and just wanted to wish you well with your life after baseball where you showed how to be the ultimate PRO. I'm happy that you are going out on your own terms and when you felt it was time. Now you will have more time with your family and with your second family the "SUNSHINE KIDS". My god brother Eder Martinez passed away a year ago this Friday July 27, at the age of 21, after being diagnosed with his first tumor in one of his legs at the age of 7. He went for years cancer free after he had surgery to remove his leg. Until last year in about March When he was told it had become terminal and he wouldn't make it to much longer. I spent alot of time with him at his side at Texas Children's and he would tell me how much you and the Sunshine Kids had helped him in his hard times. He was a very strong young man even when the Doctor's gave him his grim news he still would keep a smile on his face and he showed me so much strength and character something that I have also seen within you sir. Well it just so happend that he was asked if he would like to go see you and the team play against the Kansas City Royals and he so much wanted to go see the game, the team also had a meet and greet with us and even thought I knew he was in pain he still had the greatest time with his big brother and I being able to share in the experience. Thanks to you and the Sunshine Kids we had one of the most memorable experiences, and I just wanted to thank you not only for the kind of player you were but also for the kind of person you are sir and hope that you will touch many more lives off the diamond.
I WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY THE BEST!!!!!
SINCERELY,

Espically as a Biggio from NewOrleans. I want to thank you for teaching America how to pronunce our name. I have only seen one of your games in person, but when we were there you made time to say hello and sign a ball for my then 9 year old son. Maybe Biggio is Italian for Baseball. From the Biggio's of New Orleans we thank you and wish you and your family the best in the future. I get asked all the time if we are related and I always say 'I hope so'.

Mr.Biggio, I am so sorry to hear of your retirement. I first saw you play when I visited my brother in Houston and we attended some of the last games played at the Astrodome and I have been a fan ever since. I am from Pittsburgh and I was able to see you play Friday. I also attended the game Saturday and would have been there Sunday but I had to work. My brother sent my a shirt with your 3000 hit logo and I wore it to the game Friday. I only regret I did not get you to autograph the baseball I took to the game because I was sitting right by your dugout but didn't want to bother you and was too chicken to approach you and ask. I am a 57 year old mother of three boys, but I am still one of your biggest fans. Good luck in whatever you do in the future and thank you for a great career. Will miss seeing you at second base. Craig, You are a true class act and it was an honor watching you play the game of baseball. I will never forget game 4 of the World Series. I was able to take my Dad who had just been discharged from the hospital after spending 8 months in the ICU. Everytime we would speak, I would encourage him to get better so we could go to the World Series. It was a real motivator for him. Thanks for all the memories and I look foward to taking my daughter to your final game in September.

Craig, I just wanted to take a moment to wish you the best in retirement from an active baseball playing career. I also want to thank you for the countless memories you provided for me as a life-long 'Stros fan. You truly played the game the way it was meant to be played. The future of baseball will be great if everyone plays the game half of the way you did. Thanks again!!! Kevin.

A Grand Slam on announcement day!!! You have always had style and my family was always
proud of you. I go back to the
Jimmy Wynn days and was pulling for Bags when my wife
decided to cheer for #7. That was 20 years ago..then we were with our boys and saw you and your family at Disneyworld in the 90's. Houston will certainly miss you as a true CHAMPION. We will always remember BGO and Bags as the Astros heart and soul...enjoy your accomplishments soon to include the Hall Of Fame!!!

Craig,
Thanks for being such a class act. I as a parent and now Grandparent really appreciate your soft heart for the kids. May you and your family be blessed. Please keep your soft touch with all children. They need the good upstanding support you as a class athelete can provide.Congradulations on your outstanding career and 300 hits. I will be bringing my 2 daughters & son and 6 grand kids to see you play before the end of the season.
God Bless you and your family and thanks for the happy memories!!!

Biggio,
The memories will always be there, for you, and for all of us. You were there when I first saw a baseball game, and it will be strange walking into Minute Maid and seeing someone else playing second base, but I am thankful for the times I've watched you play. Thanks for the ride, and Godspeed to you.

Sorry to spoil the party, but your comments about the best part..."interacting with kids"..my own kids find that a joke! You snubbed them after we waited outside the Astrodome many years ago for an autograph-you made an impression all right-it's all about you.

Selfishly, I want to say please don't go, but I know you have to do what is best for you. I am from upstate NY and have always had the comment -you root for the Astros? why? -until you and Bagwell came along. I travel to Pittsburgh each time the Astros play there. I am just really sorry you won't be going back there this year. You are the player every kid should model themselves on. Thanks for the autographs you have signed for me over the years -not one of them will ever reach e-bay. I have always been impressed on how you take so much time with the fans. It has been an honor to be able to watch you.

Just to say to you Craig that I was not surprised at your announcement. I have been attending a lot of games in the last two years and am now a transitioning baseball nut. I miss both you and Bagwell. I will be at the game when Bagwell's number is retired and also at the game celebrating your 3,000 hits. It won't be the same without you. I am glad that you are going to get the chance to experience new things and spend time with your family when they are going to grow and accomplish things in life and become a great adults. My husband and I wish you the best. We will miss you. Maybe I can get your autograph before you retire. I hope I can say bye, good luck and thanks in person.

It has been an honor getting to watch you play Craig. I was 5 when you made your debut and and will be a month shy of 25 when you play your last regular season game. You and Jeff Bagwell are the Astros for me and always will be. You did it the right way- I will always remember you leading the way onto the field for each game, celebrating with Baggy and Mike Hampton in '97, and hugging Baggy in the dugout as the Pennant was clinched in '05.
Thank you for all that you have given to the Astros and to all of us as fans of the Astros. You will be missed and it wont be the same on opening day without you next year, but it has been an awesome experience watching you for my whole life!

I don't want you to go! Being a baseball fan for 20+ years, back to the days when you were a catcher, leaves me wondering what I am going to do without my "Bij". As I sit here and type, I am starting to cry. The way you go out and represent the Astros with such heart and pride.....could you just please never retire? =) I know, I know....that you have to eventually, but I never knew when the year started, that this would be the last. I am terribly sad but also happy that Houston was your team....living in this city knowing you belonged to us...the fans and residents of this wonderful place we all call home. Craig (B-G-O), please know from me to you..that you share a special place in my heart and the heart of EVERY Houston Astros fan. I wish you the very best in life and hope that where ever you go, you and your family are blessed and healthy. Maybe we will see you on the field again...till that day, thank you old friend. We will miss you. By the way....HECK OF A GRAND SLAM TONIGHT BABY!!! Also, a big HELLO from all of us here at The Methodist Hospital!

CB,
Thanks for not going to Colorado; we would have missed so much!
Enjoyed seeing the hustle on every play, offensively and defensively.
Was able to visit the HOF several years back after Nolan was enshrined; I now intend to visit again 5 years from now.
Thanks for the memories and for tonight's homerun. What a way to add emphasis to an announcement!

I, like so many, have loved watching you play since your rookie year. I was in high school...and admired you so much. Thank-you for what you have done for the city of Houston...and on a personal note, thank-you for always giving my dad and I something to talk about...even after the tragedy of losing my mom, we had Biggio to discuss to break the silence. (My mom loved you, too!) I am now a Mom and teacher in Longview, Texas...and now my own kids and students love you as well.

Craig,
I didn't want to like you. You were taking over for my favorite player, Alan Ashby. But I grew to love you for everything that you did on the field ( by the way, I was quite fond of Billy Doren too). I have literally watched you play for 20 years. It has been a pleasure and it still is a pleasure. I have cried today and I will cry again at Septembers end but they are tears of joy that you have given me and every other Astro fan for your whole career. Thank you for all the pleasure I have had at the Astodome and Minute Maid Park. It isn't over yet. Let's end 2007 on a winning note. I truly love you. Your most dependable fan, Robbie Jay

Just wanted to share a little story that we like to brag about. Years ago when you were just a rookie and playing in the Dome, I took my son to one of the 'Astros Camps'. My son was playing Little League and was a catcher. You were great. You showed the kids how to hold the mitt just right, how to wear their gear, etc. But what I will always remember is your patience, the way you listened, answered their questions and made them feel like they could be the best catcher in the big leagues. My son is married now but still remembers that day. We actually have a picture of you with him taken that day and it is priceless. Thank you for that day and for the countless days you have given to the fans. You will be missed but never ever will we forget all that you have done for the game of baseball.

Dear Biggio,
I couldn't believe when I opened my email today, and saw an email from my dad titled "Biggio Retiring". I am so sad! I want to thank you very much for all of the Astros memories. I learned to tie my shoes sitting at an Astros game in the Dome. You were catching then! Since then I have been to Astros' games each and every season, always wearing my number 7, Biggio jersey! (And there have been many colors and styles of those jerseys) It was an honor to meet you and Bags at the Texas Hall of Fame Induction in Waco; it was a dream to attend Game 3 of the WS with my dad; and it was a totally undescribable night to be there when you hit 3000! I tip my hat to you for the way you have played this great game of baseball. You are a true role model for all kids. I am a third grade teacher and when I teach my students about baseball in April, I always use you and Bags as examples of great players! Best wishes to you and yours. Thank you again for everything. See you in Cooperstown!

Craig, It has been a pleasure watching you play over the years. No matter what was going on we have always made time to watch the Astro's play ball. I remember the year the Astro's made it into the playoff's then went on to the World Series.I didn't miss a game. I watched game's eating lunch at Jason's Deli and listen to them over the radio at work and in my car. All of my co-workers( ladies) couldn't believe that I loved to watch the game so much. Bidge,
It has been a distinct pleasure to watch you play the game with gusto - the only way you know how to do it! I have been an avid supporter of the Astros for 25 years. You are the primary reason for that. I admire you for the man that you are. You arre such a tremendous role model to other players and to young people around the world. Your commitment to your family and to the team that gave you a chance are so admirable. Your patriotic spirit has been demonstrated in so many different ways. Your many gifts to the community have been widely known, even though you have been very humble and have avoided publicity of any type. You have brought so much to the game of baseball and to sports in general. You have been a marvelous athlete, but even more importantly, you have been an inspiration to millions of people. You did it the right way! Thank you for the many gifts that you have given to each of us. I have often used use as an example for my own children. They also respect and admire you very much. You will not be forgotten. Rather, you will be long remembered for the man you are and for the genuine good that you have brought to the fans, the Astro organization, the world of baseball, and the world in general. Thank you for everything. We'll see you in the Hall of Fame! God bless you and your family!

I started off playing little league baseball in the middle to late 80's in Beaumont, TX. I am a huge Astros fan. I started off playing in the outfield but when you were called up to the Astros I switched my position to catcher to be like you. You inspired me to get behind the plate. I thank you for that. As long as I can remember being an Astros fan I remember you, your all I have ever known I was 7 when you came to the big leagues and all I can remember is my dad saying how great you were and he wanted me to hustle no matter what just like you. I remember trying to get your autograph at the dome and not being able to get down close enough to get one and was so disappointed. In 1994 I was diagnosed with Leukemia (ALL) and became a apart of an organization know as the wonderful Sunshine Kids.. and I finally got to meet you and shake your hand in the Astrodome locker rooms and get that autograph and it is one of my most prized possessions. I have been in remission now for 13 years and I was blessed on November 15 2006 with a son and I named him Craig Alan because if I want him to be like anyone it would be you... your not only a great player but you are an even greater father and husband and I look up to you even more for that.

Mr. Biggio,
What I always think about when I think of you as a player is what a good role model you have been for myself and for the many children who watch you. Ball players like you are hard to find, and thats what makes your announcement today even more important.
I remember being 8 years old and hearing the hype about you in your Rookie season. In fact my family was so excited about our great new Rookie that we even named our cat after you. How many people have done that? We were not crazy, but just really excited about how well you played the game, and you are right, you did play it the right way.
Thank you for working hard for our ball club and city.

My grandfather who is in his eighties has always been a huge Astros fan; probably one of the reasons I am today. He regularly asks me if you played the night before and how you did. He was in the hospital the night of your 3000th hit. He was so happy when I called him on the phone to tell him about it. You have given a lot of yourself to the game and to the fans. In 1994, I was in Minnesota when Kent Hrbek announced he was going to retire at the end of the season. I went to the game that night, and Hrbek hit a home run in his first at bat. That was exciting, but since the Astros are my team, the Biggio grand slam far surpassed the Hrbek home run for me. Thank you for a career playing the right way.

As an Astro fan and mor importantly today, B-G-O fan, I'm humbled to have a chance to see you play all these years. I'll never forget when I was about 11 standing at the dugout with a picture I had bought with my allowance of you at the dome. Right before the game began I was a kid among many men, you threw a bag of seeds and signed that picture. The older guys were a little pissed probably, but that pic is hanging in my home, and now I have a 2 year old girl and one of the words she can say is a choppy Biggio. I have to say it has been a great 20 years to watch you and more. I am originally from Upstate New York around the Rochester area and I moved here in 1981 in August. I got hooked on the Astros not long after moving here. Such players they had and pitchers. A lot of players and more have loved over the years but if I have any memories I would love to treasure and take with me it is seeing Craig Biggio play for Houston, plus the Years you and Bagwell had together. Those will be memories for a life time and of course my 1 and only time to see Roger pitch for Houston at Minute Maid. You will be missed but not forgotten here in Houston and 20 years is a nice round number and more and in seeing how old your Boys are you know they are not getting younger. And I can't forget your precious daughter too. Going to miss Yelling B-G-O at the ball games but 20 years has gone fast and I will forever treasure the memories I have.

It has been awesome watching you, you are an inspiration to all. (Especially the bowhunters in my family!) But, your retirement will be bittersweet for me. My grandmother died at 92, an avid Astros fan, an even bigger Craig Biggio fan! Days before her death, she was sitting on the edge of her chair saying, "go, Biggio, go! So, you being at bat, brings back really fond memories of my grandma cheering you on. You will be greatly missed, but may you know that you have an angel in heaven rooting for you in whatever you do! God bless you Craig Biggio and best wishes to you and your family always. Thanks for the memories!

Unfortunately I am only old enough to have watched you play the second half of your career. I lived in Houston until 2000 when I was about 8 years old, and seeing the Astros in the Dome always meant seeing Biggio and Bagwell to me. I missed you guys when I moved up to the DC area but whenever I come down to see my relatives I've always tried to see a couple Astros games. I got the chance to meet you and shake your hand during the fanfest in 2006 (which was one of the best memories I have). I've never expirienced the Astros without the original Killer Bees, so I dont know what it will be like, but I will always look back on the good old days. You are my hero, and I'm going to miss you.

Craig, all I can say is that you and Jeff have been my heroes, as long as I can remember. And for the past few years, I have had trouble coming to terms with the fact that my heroes' illustrious careers were coming to a close. My one wish is that Jeff could have ended his career on a higher note than a failed attempt to come back from an injury. He deserved so much better. But I am really glad that you are ending your career on a high note. This year has been truly special for me. I just graduated from high school and turned 18. An era is coming to an end. But as one era ends, another begins, and I am about to set out to college and begin life on my own. Just as the era of the Killer B's is coming to a close, the likes of Hunter Pence and Lance Berkman are here to pick up the torch. You and Jeff will forever be the symbols of what I felt was a very satisfying childhood. I will forever cherish those years as a true golden era for both myself and baseball. I just can't wait to see you and Jeff inducted into the hall. He should be a 1st balloter, but I want to see you inducted together. You are everything everyone should be as an athelete and as a person. Baseball will never be the same without you.
You (and Jeff's) fan for life,

P.S. Promise me that you will lean into at least 3 more pitches this year so you can get the all time reccord! I always felt your HBP totals were the perfect symbol of the way you play the game; with the undying hustle and competativeness that makes you the embodiment of everything an athelete should be.

Mr. Biggio,
I feel so blessed to have been able to watch you play. I really only started following the Astros obsessively during the 2004 season (I chose a good time to start). Therefore, I did not get the chance to really watch you progress over your 20 year career. Of course, I couldn't have anyway because I am only 18. But that is how much you have affected people. I was not even born when you started playing in the big leagues and you have played the game so well and for so long that I got the chance to watch you and for that I thank you. I actually talked to you over the phone on Astroline before the 2006 season. I don't even remember what I asked you, but I felt so cool hat I had talked with Craig Biggio and after I finished I remember Milo saying "Good Call. Now let's go to..." I felt so special and just wanted to thank you for that memory. I feel sorry for the teams that do not have a player like you who has stuck with the same team for so many years. That is something special. My grandpa always tells me the same thing you said, that there is no more loyalty in baseball. He said he used to watch the same guys play year after year and now he can't even remember the players' names. He lives in Chicago and is a White Sox fan, but when I told him I went to the game on June 28 of this year he told me that there was even an article in the Chicago paper about your milestone. He was so excited for me to be able to be there to witness baseball history that he sent me te article. When I was at the game and you got the 3,000th hit, I almost cried. Then, when you brought Bagwell out, I did cry. My girlfriend looked at me, but I did not try to hide it. You guys are amazing... that's right, I'm not going to say you were amazing because you will always be Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell. Thanks for the memories and I'm glad you made the decision to spend time with your family.
Billy
P.S. I went to Strake Jesuit for high school. I heard your son is going to St. Thomas, our rival school, and I said, "We can only hope he didn't learn how to play ball from his father."

Craig, Thanks for all the good times, I have been watching you play since '94. I have seen you play live, twice in 95 at Cincy and Once in Arlington in 05. You are the reason I started watching the Astros, I just loved the way you play the game. You play hard and always seem to have a smile on your face. You seem to be just a big kid on the field. I have seen many players in the past that refuse to have their picture taken or sign the autograph and then I see you and you are always taken care of those kids and signing the ball, or program fro them. I have missed seeing Bagwell out on the field, but I dont know how I will act without seeing ole number 7 out on the field. You will be missed by all of us! Thank you again and have a great retirement, you have earned it and I will make it a point to see you in Cooperstown when you get inducted!

Craig, all the way from Union, New Jersey i have watched and admire you for the past 7 years of my life. you have been apart of my everyday life just looking at the posters and the pictures and even the autographed balls.seeing the smile that you have every time you play the game makes my days even brighter. before i knew you i was a yankee fan but once i saw you play i turned into an astros fan. you are the reason ive become and astros fan and why everybody else did too. the dedication to the game is what ill miss most. doing everything right. i even incorperated you into my baseball life too. i conviced my dad(coach) to let my team become the astros. i wore the number 7 every day on the field and have even become a second basemen. ill be there in five years when your inducted into the hall of fame. losing you in baseball is like losing someone in my family. i love you and have adored you. im going to the game at shea on Semtember 8 i would really like too see you one last time before cooperstown. play one more game for me. B-G-O B-G-O!!! Your biggest fan for life, Craig Alan Kornblum

Craig, So many great words already said by so many. It has been a tremendous pleasure watching you play this game. The grace and integrity that you bring both on and off the field is so inspirational. I readily tell people that I moved to Houston from North Carolina in 1992 as a long-time Braves fan, but I left in 1999 as a permanent Houston Astros fan. That is all because of the quality and class of the people in the organization, and you and Bagwell are right there at the top of the list as co-#1. With your annoucement today, I'll now forever remember the line drive that almost got over the left fielder's head at RFK last week but still drove in a run. I now think that might be the last time I get to see you hit in person. Thank you very much for sharing so much of your life with us and with this game. May you receive back everything that you have given many times over.
Sincerely, Jeff

Craig,
I can remember hearing the announcers on the radio discussing how to pronounce Biggio when you first came to the plate. I can remember the hustle you brought to every play, every at bat. It has been a great 20 seasons. It won't be the same without you, however you have shown us how to play the game with class, dignity and with reverence for those who came before and the way they played the game. Now I just have to start making plans and saving for the trip to Cooperstown for your induction. Congratulations on your career and your retirement, now go and enjoy your family.

Craig,
...speaking of the Astrodome days from your blog...I was one of those few fans in the Astrodome crowd cheering my heart out as a kid for you, Baggy, and Caminiti. Growing up a catcher myself, our softball coach always told us to watch our position player and see how they play. You were my idol. After the move to 2nd, outfield, and back to 2nd, you've still remained such an inspiration to us all. I thank you and your family for your dedication to Houston. I'm glad that you and your family feel comfortable enough to call Houston home. You will forever be missed on the field. It's not going to be the same without the B-G-O chant! Congratulations on an outstanding career. As a parent and teacher, thank you mostly for being an awesome role model for the kids.
Don't be a stranger to Minute Maid Park! I expect to see you there like Nolan Ryan!

Mr. Biggio,
I'm 19 years old and all I've ever known about the Astros has come from watching you and Bagwell throughout the years. Thank you for everything you have given to the team, the city, and the fans. You are one of the few athletes that deserves being looked up to as a hero, in any capacity. Congratulations on an amazing career; thanks for the great memories! And thanks for giving me a special way to bond with my grandfather. Baseball is his favorite sport and he loves you almost as much as I do! You will be missed, but I wish all the best to you and your family! May God continue to bless and keep you!

For me it’s been an honor to watch you play, I will admit I have not been an Astros fan for too long, 4 years to be exact, but watching you play every game, has been an inspiration. Before seeing you play, I use to have a sour taste in my mouth of professional players, because I had never seen the game played like I wished it were played, (hustling down the line with every play, running after every ball), but you, you play it right! I always tell my family and friends that you remind me of a little leaguer hustling down the line, always trying to beat the game, and that is why I admire you, because you have heart, because you love the game and are not afraid to show it! Thank you
The sound of the fans shouting B-G-O, B-G-O! Will be missed, minute maid wont be the same with out you next year, Houston won’t be the same! I want to thank you for the way you conduct yourself in and outside the diamond, you are someone that I admire so much. I know that you need to spend time with you family, but boy do I wish you could play forever! jejeje. I have been one of the lucky ones that was there the night of your 3000 hit! (Congratulations for that by the way!!!!) I will admit I still cry every time I see the replay and every time I see footage of you bringing baggie out! I hope one day I can be a lucky one and express my admiration and gratitude to you in person, but for now I will have to settle for this… Again THANK YOU! CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR AMAZING CAREER! AND WE WILL MISS YOU!!

Dear Craig,
Thank you so much for so many memories. My sons and I have watched you since you became an Astro. You, Baggy, and Cami - what a treat! When my grown daughter came to live with us 11years ago her brothers told her "During baseball season, the TV belongs to Mom". She looked a little startled but said "OK, I can handle 1 game a week. Just like football". You should have seen her face when they explained to her that there are 162 games of baseball in a season!! She learned quickly to become an Astros fan also! It seems as if you are a part of our family. We all admire and respect you. We will miss seeing #7 out there between the lines. Bless you, enjoy your family, and see you in Cooperstown !!!!

I am 35 years old and have been a huge Astros fan since my daddy took me to my first game before I began elementary school. I have always been a huge fan of yours and have always loved how you have carried yourself as a role model to all, on the field and off the field. Your charitable endeavors off season and hard work on the field will be missed by all who respect and love the game, like myself. May God continue to bless you as you continue towards another chapter in your life.

Thanks for playing clean in a sport that has been tainted with players who haven't. You truly set a great example to young players showing them that they don't have to cheat to be great. Now that this is all ending, my prayer is that you will be blessed and find your hope in the One that is bigger than baseball.

Mr. Biggio, I gotta be honest with you. I am not a fan of the Houston Astros. But I am a huge fan of you. I may bleed for the Brewers, but 9 times out of 10 when I go to Miller Park, it is to see you play. My first game included you in fact. Growing up in my early years I wasn't a big baseball fan, until the day I saw you play. Craig, you gave baseball a meaning for me. My friends often criticize me at school when I wear my Craig Biggio jersey, but I tell them that I'm representing the greatest man to wear a baseball jersey and he may never have worn Brewer white, but he is better than any man who ever has. Around here, JJ Hardy may be the man, but you'll always be the real #7 to me. Thank you Mr. Biggio, and I look forward to you coming in September for one last time.

Craig,
I realize this will probably get lost in the hundreds of comments that will become of this blog, but I just wanted to personally thank you for playing the game the right way, in every single aspect, for 20 years. Growing up in Houston playing 2B in Little League, I wasnt the best player on the field, but I would bust my but during every game and every practice, earning the nick name "Biggio". It gives me chills to this day to be compared to you by my team mates when I was that age. Because of how you played the game, caused me to play the game the right way, and after my senior year of High School ball, I have had younger guys thank me for playing the game the right way day in and day out, and now like you have, I effect their lives in a positive manner on and off the field to give 100% in anything you put your mind to based on your morals and principles you exhibit every game. You not only have a direct effect on the fans and how younger kids play the game, but a secondary effect of how those kids, who have now grown up and who used to try and be just like you when they were younger, influence others younger than them to play the game right and be a good person on and off the field, just like you taught them years ago. You have positively effected thousands upon thousands of lives that only a select few people in history ever get to do. It has truly been a blessing to have you in Houston all these years and you will be missed more than you can imagine. Going to watch games is never going to be the same with out you. Watching Bagwell retire was pain enough for us fans who used to watch you two terrorize NL Pitching!! haha...Please stay in the organization some how after this year!!! Much Love and God Bless

Dear Mr. Biggio,
You and Mr. Bagwell are the reasons I am an Astros fan. I grew in L.A. and was born into Dodger Blue. I moved to Texas and had the great pleasure of seeing the two of you play. I was hooked!!! Over the years I have come to expect the best from every player on the field because that is what you taught us all to expect. Give 100%, play the game the right way. I cannot express to you in words adequetly what watching you has meant to me, and my family. You have shown us tenacity, heart, desire, unselfishness, and love of the game. The Astros will enter a new era with your retirement. Let us all hope that the Astros carry on the tradition of your work ethic. You leave behind a legion of fans who will cry with you on your final day. We sat and watched in the Dome and MMP some of the most thrilling moments in Astros history. You were an integral part of them all. We were with you on your 3,000 hit day, and again tonight after you announced your retirement. We will be with you on your last day in an Astros uniform. As you have tears in your eyes, know that we too will be crying along with you. God Bless you and your family. It is there time now, but do not forget us. We will be with you again in Cooperstown. You can bet on that!!!!!

Craig,
WOW! We watched your game winning Grand Slam you hit tonight. Way to go! It's those kinds of things you have done and keep doing that makes us forever Biggio fans, and why it's going to be just as difficult for us to say good bye to you as it will for you to say good bye to us. As soon as we heard of your retirement announcement, we bought tickets for the last game of the season so we could be there for your last at bat. Unfortunately, all we could get was nose bleed seats, but that's ok, at least we'll be there cheering for you. I'm sure you want hear us from where we'll be seated, but just to be a part of that day will be special to us and a time to remember. There's so much to say thank you for, because of all you've done, but I think I can sum it up by simply saying, "Thank you Craig Biggio for all you have done for the sport, the city, the fans, the kids, and the charities through the years. Thank you for your time and dedication as a great baseball player, we'll miss you greatly, and we wish you and your family the best in your future together". Tell Patty and the kids, "Thank you so much", for allowing us to enjoy your 20 year Hall of Fame journey, it's been a great and memorable ride.

Congrats on your sucess this season and your career. You have given us (your fans) many great memories. For that we thank you. For many years my mom has called you her little Craigy & her special pet name for you is "my pigpen" because you always get dirty in the first inning! You never thoguht twice about sliding into base or diving for balls and that's something we all love about you, you give us 110% everyday you play. I only wish there was a way to meet you in person someday. I have had the honor of meeting your good pal Jeff Bagwell here in Corpus Christ on 3 occasions. Craig,
Every person will encounter thousands of people in their daily lives. Of those thousands, there are a mere handful that make such an impression on your life that you will always hold them close. And even though we have never met in person, you have been the personification of the game of baseball and the Astros organization for my family and myself. Even though I wasn't blessed with boys, all three of my girls have played softball and I have been known to pull them aside and show them replays (I have recorded almost every game for the past few years since I often don't get to watch the game live) of your efforts on the field. You have truly played the game the way it was meant to be played. I don't think I have ever seen a game where you didn't give it your all. Thank you. You are one of the reasons that I have enjoyed watching the Astros - win or lose.

It has been an awesome ride to follow you your entire career as an Astro. I remember watching you catch at the Dome when you first came up with the club in the late 80's. I have been an Astros fan for all 24 years of my life I got that from my grand parents and parents who watched every game. Watching you and Bagwell over the years was great to know you guys never left Houston, the original Killer B's. You played the game the right way and you get to leave the right way on your terms, for love of the game and to spend time with your family. I know we will see you again in Cooperstown, New York. Dear Craig,
First and foremost, THANK YOU! It is because of you that I have become a DIE HARD fan of the Astros and baseball itself. You have given so much of yourself, and you and your family have sacrificed more than anyone could imagine. You deserve all the blessings that you have received and will continue to receive.
You have given me many special memories that I will never forget. I'm sure you don't remember me, but I got to know you and then your family while working at the Randalls' Pharmacy on W. Holcombe around the time of your knee injury. You came into the pharmacy and fortunately for me, I was always available right then to help you. You were always the gentleman then as I know you are now. I left there shortly after but took my experience with me. There was also an occasion inside the Wells Fargo branch at that store. It was my day off and we were in separate lines. I was in my own world, not even remotely dressed up to meet anyone, and you smiled at me several times. Eventually, to get my attention, you removed your sunglasses. I felt so honored at that moment that you seemed to recognize ME! I think I floated on air all the way back home.
I am saddened to day at the news of your upcoming retirement, but am so HAPPY for your family. You have given so much in the name of BASEBALL and set such a high standard, I would be amazed if anyone ever got anywhere near it. You epitomize the words of CLASS, DEVOTION, and RESPECT! Not just in your professional career, but the way you live.
To your wife Patty, and your children Connor, Cavan, and Quinn:
To say THANK YOU for the sacrifices you have made as a family seems so inadequate. It is now time for Craig, at the ultimate top of his game, to rejoin you.
Craig,
Once again, I am forever blessed, for getting to know you and your family and for the honor and privilege of seeing you throughout your career.
All my love as a true BIGGIO fan,

Craig,
Thank you for being a true Astro. Though we have never met I would like to tell you the impact you have had on my family. I have coach my 10 year old daughter since she was 4 in fastpitch softball. She is a devoted fan of yours and the Astros. She asked me when she was 5, "Daddy can I be any number I want to be?" I explained to her that the league only gave us 1-15 and that some of the numbers were for the bigger and older girls. She is a rather small girl in stature so I was naturely concerned as the uniforms went from small to large with the numbers 1-15(15 being the biggest and 1 being the smallest.) Her response touched me deeply and I would like to share it with you. She said" Daddy I really hope and pray that number 7 fits me and nobody else gets it first." I asked her why number 7? She said " Well daddy my favorite Astros player is Craig Biggio and he wears number 7 and if I'm half as good as him then I will do pretty good." This brought a tear to my eye because I thought she was only watching the games to spend time with me. She has followed your career ever since and watches every game she can. She cried when you got your 3000th right along with you. I'm happy to tell you that I as her father am honored that she has chossen you to emulate. Who better for a young child to try and be like in her play than you? She works very hard at her position,(middle infield) and has made all stars for 3 years in a row. Thank you for touching a childs life that you never even met. You are a true inspiration to her and to me. Thank you for all you have done for our game and for being a true ambassador to our city. You have played the game and carried your self with the upmost respect and honor. You will be missed but NEVER forgotten.

Dear Craig,
Ever since my first game as an 8 month old baby back in 1989-1990, I have known who you are and I have been one of your biggest fans. You have been the face of the Astros for such a long time and I will truly, truly miss you. In my eyes, you and Bagwell are the greatest players there will ever be to wear an Astros uniform, especially you. You ARE the greatest I have seen and you will always be the greatest. I love your enthusiasism for the game so much and it will be very emotional for me and the Astros' fans, to not see you in your uniform being the first one to run out to play your position come next season. Nothing will be the same without you.
However, the saying, ''Life goes on,'' is what we must do. It will be very difficult, I think you know that. You will NEVER, EVER be forgotten. As an admirer of you and a long time fan of 18 years, and as a straight guy, I love you Craig Biggio and the person you are. You ARE THE BEST and will always be the best. Good luck with the rest of your family, your life, and more.
P.S.- Who knows, maybe we will see Conor or Cavan in an Astros uniform in the near future. I will miss you, we will ALL miss you. It is our turn to say, ''THANK YOU'' for everything you have done. You are the best and I wish you luck! See you in Cooperstown! You more than deserve it...MR. 3,000.

Thank you so much. People like you are the reason that we regard athletes as heroes. Every day you played, you showed everyone the joy you felt in the game of baseball. You did your best to help others, no matter what. I wish you, your wife, and your children all the best; y'all have done great things for this city. There will always be a home for you here: in Houston, with the Astros, and in the hearts of your fans.

craig,
thanx so much for the memories. i saw you during your rookie year and me and my buddy were at the dome the first night you played in the outfield during one of those late 80's astrodome blowouts when you first played in the outfield to keep your bat in the game! i live in LA now and go to all astro so-cal games, so i'm hopeful you play mon 8/13 and thur 8/16. i'll be there just like every other year to cheer you guys on!
ps...caught a foul ball at last season's day game!
pps...thanx for 2005...it meant so much for so many!

Craig Biggio, since long before I ever watched a baseball game, I always knew 2 things about baseball, Biggio, and Bagwell. You guys were baseball to me then, before I put on my first glove, and before I swung a bat for the first time, there was still Biggio and Bagwell. When I finally was old enough to play baseball, me and all my friends would always immitate you guys, Bagwell's stance and all that, I will always remember that. I will always be an Astros fan, but when you leave, I know it won't nearly be the same, I'll keep watching, but when the game starts and you aren't walking up to home plate to lead off, everytime it's gonna be just as weird as the first, like they say, you played the game right, the way it was supposed to be played, and I am so grateful I was able to see you play, and well, if I had any baseball talent whatsoever, and I could someday play in the big leagues, you can bet your bottom dollar I'd play for free if I could just be on your team. You are an inspiration, a true hero, a great player, you love your family, and you do so much for the community, and we appreciate it so much, you are something else man, you are something else.

I'm a Dodgers Fan from SoCal, but even I was rooting for you to hit a grandslam last night against my team! Congrats on a great career, and being a tremendous role model for the kids today. I will always remember Biggio and Bagwell. It has been a privledge to watch you both play, and watch two teammates have so much respect for each other, their team, and the city in which they play. Today's atheletes could learn a few things from you and your buddy. A MILLION THANKS! And may God bless you and your family. See you at Dodger Stadium in August when I can give you a STANDING O!

Biggio,
I've been watching you ever since I was a little kid and I have to say it's been a privilege. You've always been one of my favorites and I'm glad to see you achieve so much. Thank you for you dedication to the game, the Astros, this city, and its people. I wish you would stay and play another year but I would rather you go out on top. Congratulations and thanks for the memories.

Thanks for playing the game the way you felt was right. You have always been an inspirational player. You're at the top of the list of players I most admire, along with Brooks Robinson,Frank Robinson, Carlton Fisk, and a few others. I'm over fifty, so you can figure who I grew up hearing about and eventually watching. You're in there with the best.
It was nice of you to include Bagwell in your celebration of the 3,000 hits. He's also been a great and inspirational player. You both deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
I wish you and your family all the best; likewise to Jeff Bagwell and his. I hope you both have great and rewarding success in the careers and lives that you are just beginning.
Respectfully,

Biggio, you are the greatest, you have always given everything you had and shown how the GAME should be played. My wife passed away in 2004 but she was one of your biggest fans, and I wish see could have seen what you have done and the way you are ending your career. All I can say is good luck in your future endevors and thanks for setting such a fine example for all. You have made it look easy and have made watching base ball worth while. If we had more players that would play and respect the game as you have done, there is no doubt that we would be in the playooffs every year. I also hope that the voters for the Hall of Fame relize that you and Bagwell belong in the hall of fame and should be put there at the same time because you two were the best combination in basball. thanks for everything

Biggio,
For the last 20 years you have epitomized the hero each of us should aspire to be. Although we will not be graced with your smiling presence after this year, I think you made the right decision. When I was a teenager, you took the time to talk to me after one of your first games and, for that, I will forever be a fan. Good luck and God bless you and your family. I will not say good-bye, I will say so long old friend until we meet again.

Thank you for playing for just one team your entire career, and making that team be the Astros. I remember the first day I saw you put the uniform on, I was 13 years old, I was watching the game on tv with my dad. I told my dad that looks like a teenager behind home plate. After that day your name and Houston Astros was synonymous. Anytime we had man on or we were down to our last few outs and I looked over to see who was on deck and saw you, I always felt we had a chance, because I knew that you were going to give it 100%. I am so happy to have lived through your accomplishments, I will never forget watching you reach the world series, to me you were a player that had to be there for the Astros. You are a stand up guy.

B-G-O!
I began watching the Astros as a little girl because my dad was a huge fan. You were just a rookie when I first went to an Astros game. Now, at 28, I get choked up thinking about how different it will be watching the Astros without my favorite player of all time playing for them. I admire everything about you, especially the love you have for your wife and children. Seeing you embrace your wife at the press conference yesterday was so special. It is something that is so rare in professional sports these days. You are great baseball player but more important you are a great person. We will all miss you very much! God bless you!

Thank you, Craig, for the amazing career you have shared with us all in Houston. I was 6 years old when you began your career with the Astros, and I have faithfully watched and supported my team every year since. Watching you and Bagwell spend your respective careers here has been such an honor. Few players have the loyalty you have. I remember in 2005 I met you coming out of Jersey Mike's. Like the gushing fan I am, I rushed over and congratulated you on the home run you hit the night before. Instead of blowing me off like most players would, you rearranged your sandwiches, shook my hand and very genuinely said "Thank you." I will always remember what a class act you were that day. Your 3000th hit was also a very special day. My father, Mark, a VERY avid Astros fan, passed away tragically 5 days prior to that night. Watching you hit #3000 allowed my family to smile again, knowing that he saw you from "upstairs" accomplish such an amazing feat. Congratulations, Craig. You have 20 magic years to look back on and smile. The city of Houston is blessed to have #7 in their hearts.

Craig:
What a class act you have been over the years!! Growing up near Houston, I have been a fan ever since I can remember and moving throughout the state didn't change that.
I've always loved your hustle and never say die attitude. Playing softball in my youth, you served as my inspiration, especially when you caught, as I did. I was never the biggest, the hardest hitter or the most athletic, but I am proud to say that I always gave it my best, like you did!
And what a way to go out!! Leave it to you to hit a grand slam that turned out to be the game winner on the same day that you announced your retirement!
I wish you and your family well, and I know you will be successful in whatever you decide to do next-an Astros announcer or coach, perhaps?!!
THANK YOU, Craig!! We're going to miss you!!

Craig,
I'm a single mom in a family full of Biggio fans. My son loves the game and has always tried to play the way you play - all out - all the time - you have been his inspiration and example and for that I am grateful. In a profession where loyalty is almost absent and many players have chosen to take short-cuts on their pathway to success through the use of performance enhancing products, you have always raised the bar and never once disappointed your fans by the example you've set. I have always been thankful that it was #7 that captivated, motivated, and inspired my son. I knew that as long as he looked to you as his role model, he would be a success and also develop into a role model for those that one day he hopes will be watching him...whether it be on the field playing, on a field coaching somewhere, or teaching in a classroom (he wants to one day coach/teach), if he continues to follow the example you have set, he will undoubtedly become a magnificent role model himself one day. My 3 year old granddaughter knows only one cheer when it comes to baseball - that cheer is B-G-O...it doesn't matter which teams are playing (she's almost 3...she doesn't know one from another yet)...her cheer is always the same...B-G-O...she's a true fan and I'm sure I'll have to fly her home from Hawaii so she can make the final game of your Astros career....it will be a honor for us to be there - our family - saluting you - saluting your family - saying thank you and God bless you - the game will not be the same without your presence but our lives have been blessed by the 20 years of service you have graciously given and for that we are thankful. God Bless you and your family. Love - the Cheatham & Pinto Families from Santa Fe, TX and Honolulu, HI...

Craig,
I have been an Astros fan for many, many years. Born and raised in Texas and then moving to Florida was hard as I don't get to see many games here. Two moments will stick out in my life that were provided by you. The first was when you hit a homerun on the night my family buried my father. His name was drawn for a contest that the Astros were promoting and you hit the homerun for him and he won that contest. The second was seeing you and Bagwell more or less give a "sigh of relief" when the Astros beat the Cardinals for the NL pennant. It was almost as if you two said to each other, "Finally". You are a "class act", and MLB is a better organization with you there. Yes, you have done it right!!! You play the game the way it should be...."With pride, determination, outstanding work ethics, and of course "class". Baseball needs a lot of more players of your caliber.
Thank You for doing it "right"!

Thanks for everything. I just moved to Houston but have alway been a huge Astros fan. I think I actually moved so I could get to see Astros games instead of the Express. There's a lot of sports and very famous teams in Texas. Not the least of which is the Astros. Unlike the other teams and sports, much of the Astros is because of your work. I knew about Craig Biggio before I even knew about baseball. Thanks, congratulations and best of luck.

Thank you for being a REAL baseball player I have watch you since you played catcher. In fact I didn't start playing softball until I was 28 and 2 kids and my position for 10 years was a catcher which I love but haven't played in years and it was hard to walk away. But thank you for the joy of watching you and Bagwell for all these years and bring Respect and Texas Pride to the Houston Astros.

Craig,
I have been one of you and Bagwell's biggest fans since I was in little league. I remember going to the astrodome and watching y'all play. I'm 31 now and I still play amateur ball aside from working. Thanks for all the great memories. I greatly respect your work ethic. You play just as hard now as you did when you first came up. There are not a lot of guys that can say that. You are right. You did play the game the way that it was meant to be played. I never had the pleasure of meeting you but I wish I had. Thank you for the great memories. My favorite was the blown save that you handed Billy Wagner when he was with the Phillies when y'all were in the playoff hunt. Take care of yourself.

I had tears right along with you yesterday afternoon and shouts of joy with the grand slam last night. It is a sad time for baseball and the Houston Astros. But you will be leaving the same way you played with more class than 95% (or more) of the other major league baseball playing the game now. You have been the best role model that a mom could ask her children to look to. I thank you for that and all the memories you have given us. I also thank your family for the sacrifices they have had in sharing you with us. Best of luck in the next phase of your life and God bless you and your family.

The Biggio Family,
Your presence in Houston for the past 20 plus years has brought sunshine to this city. I can remember attending Astros games as a teenager in the Dome and I remember back then that Biggio and Bagwell were the strength and the glue of the Houston Astros. Your family values are just inspiring to all of us. Your game has been a great influence on my sons and you are what I know they will grow up to be--true gentleman! I only hope that you continue to bless us with your presence here in Houston and that you continue to volunteer and support the Houston The Sunshine Kids. You will greatly be missed as a team player, but my family is so proud of you for taking this step! Patty is a true inspiration also and it is obvious that you both hold a great love for each other. Please continue your values and for your retirement ---HAVE FUN with the kiddos and do whatever your heart desires!!! GOD BLESS!!! You'll be missed!!!!!

Thanks, Bidge. You became a part of my life when I was 12 years old and just about to enter the 7th grade, and now, after 20 seasons of watching you play the game of baseball the way it was meant to be played, an extremely emotional day is forthcoming for this 31 year old accountant.
The impact you had on my life, while incredible, seems insignificant when it comes down to the large number of people you have touched over the years, but I assure you, the significance is not lost on me.
Your impact extends beyond the diamond into your personal endeavors as well. With the Sunshine Kids, you continue to give hope to ailing children. When I see pictures of you with them, there is always one thing I notice: smiles. What a gift you give these wonderful children.
You have always exemplified what it is to be a baseball player, and even though I never played on a high level, it helped me to become better at the game I love, but more importantly, it will be the instruction manual for which I teach my own children how to accomplish everything they ever dreamed of.
To your wife, Patty, I would like to say, thanks for loaning us Craig for a while, but now he is coming home to you Conor, Cavan, and Quinn. By the way, I wouldn't mind seeing Biggio on the back of another Astros jersey in the future.
In Houston, so many have left us behind, but you and Baggie stayed with us through thick and thin. For that I say thank you for your loyalty to a great franchise.
Thanks, Bidge, you will always stand as a pillar that helps hold the sports community in the city of Houston, and in the country as well.
On September 30th I will be there, Bidge. I will be the one with tears in my eyes and goosebumps all over my body as I chant B G O one last time. So, I'll be hard to spot, because everyone in that stadium, along with millions worldwide will look exactly the same.

WOW...what a great day you had; retired and hit a grand slam! You proved that you are indeed going out on top on your own terms. The Astros are a class organization because of people like you! You serve as a reminder to players young and old alike that the game is best played like YOU have played all these years. I never see you "trot" down to first base, but go all-out, and many times you are safe when you would have been out had you not run hard. I'd love to hear that you will still be affiliated with the organization. Thanks for exhibiting your faith, your integrity, your compassion, and your loyalty! Best wishes to you and your family for a great future!!

When I moved to Houston in 1991 I had no idea who the Houston Astros were, I was a Cubs fan. It didn't take long to realize what a cool team the 'Stros were, with Biggio and Bagwell, and soon I was converted to a huge fan of the Astros. It has been thrilling to watch the team evolve into a championship team, with Biggio and Bagwell as the heart and soul. Bidge, your sportsmanship and loyalty are what make baseball the greatest sport in the world. It has been thrill to witness the "Rise of the Astros" with you at the helm. I'm not sure if any of these will get read, but I just want you to know that you have been my favorite player since you started. I've been to see some games, not as many as I would have liked. But you are truely what Baseball is about. Loyality, and the fans. It's never been about the money or the fame to you. You are an insporation to other players and to the fans.

I have been an Astros fan since about 1973. I am 38. When I played softball in college my dad would always say that I always played like you. Him and my mom said that I reminded them of you after every game, because my jersey was always dirty and stained with grass. I walked away from playing when my son was 5. He will turn 15 this year. I played last year at my college alumni game and gave it 110%. My son could not believe that I dove for a sinking line drive in the outfield. I will miss seeing you play. It has been great watching you and showing my son how any sport should be played. I hope to have my son, mother, and myself at the game on Sept. 30. My father will be there in spirit as he always is. Thank you again for all the wonderful memories and the way you play the game.

Thank you Craig Biggio for everything you have done for this city and this organization. You are a true "class act". If someone looks up the word, class, in the dictionary your picture should be next too it. In five years, if you don't have 100% first ballot votes, the person or persons that do not vote for you should be drug out in the street and beaten just as you have beaten up on competition over 20 years. Thank you 3000 and many more times Craig Biggio. You are simply the best.

Craig,
I've watched you from the beginning. I am a little league manager and my son is a catcher and he has always talked about Craig Biggio and Brad Ausmus. You have been an excellent role model. Thank you for your integrity and leadership and examples of how to play the game and give back to the community.

Mr. Biggio. I am not a astros fan. But I am a baseball fan. And you have had a great career. You lived a dream. And did it with the class that a lot of players seem to forget about in this era. And I would like to think you for that.

I am sad but yet so happy for you. I have watched you play all my life. You are truly an inspiration. God has blessed you well. I can remember you playing in the cathers box, to going to second, then the out field and back to second. You have played the game just as you should. I have enjoyed watching you play. Enjoyed watching you reach your goals. I am a friend of a friend. My husband works for Chris Luke and from what I hear you are good friends. I get to hear some of your home stories and sounds like your a great person at home as well. I know your a big U2 fan. You will be greatly missed on the field. I can only imagine what life has in store for you now. I am certain Patty and the kids are going to cherish every moment of you being home now. God bless you and your family. Thank you again for the great and wonderful memories.

Craig, I have been an Astro fan since I was 13 in 1965 and going to the Astrodome for the first time. I have seen manu players come and go but you own my heart. You always gave your all to the team...."the team" is what it's all about. A collection of men that spend seven or eight months a year together with supposidly one goal in mind- to win. Believe me, there are a lot of ballplayers out there with a handful of rings that are not winners as you are.You have won the admiration of so many fans. Many so-called superstars chasing home run records will never be the champion, the winner you are. I am a big man with many manly accomplishments and I shed a tear today thinking I won't see you play after this year. Once in awhile someone very special comes into this game and plays it as a Gehrig or Ryan did. They are very rare Craig you are one of those bright stars that soared across my sky. Charles Snyder

Craig it is indeed a sad day but a happy day. Thank you for your career in baseball. Your a true gentleman of the game. You always played with heart, it showed each and every game. I was able to see you play a game in 98 at the Astrodome and I watch on
FSN here in Arkansas. There will be a void in the future without you but the game is so much better from you playing the game. You are a
inspiration to many young boys like my son. Thank you for being a positive role model and providing us the fans many great years of entertainment over the years.
Best wishes to you and your family and I look forward to your H.O.F. induction in the
coming years.

-I just moved to KC, Missouri a month ago after spending the first 23 years of my life in Southeast, Texas. You've always been my favorite Astro and the Astros have always been my favorite team. I've always admired the way you played. Even though I was just a pitcher in most of my playing days, I always tried to have a little Biggio in me. I just read your letter and wanted to share one thing with you in this message, and that is that I always joke with some of my friends about the 2005 season. I probably went to 15 games that year and everytime I was there, you hit a homer. I always tell my friends if I had season tickets that year, you would have hit 80. I doubt I will get to ever see you play live again, but it has been a pleasure. I will miss you. When I think of my childhood, there will always be BGO memories.

My husband, 2 sons & I have been Astro fans from day 1. You and Bagwell were most of the reason. You have always shown loyalty to the 'Sto's & that is something you rarely see today. You've also always played the game with class and respect and you were a player that my sons idolized. As a family, we admired that you too are a family man & your generosity towards the Sunshine Kids, etc., speaks volumes of your integrity. Thanks for all the great memories and we thank you for your hard work and class act. Best wishes to you & your family in your retirement.

Craig, I have been a rabid fan of Astros baseball for 28 of the 37 years I have been alive. When I was in little league I was a huge Alan Ashby fan, and I remember when you were called up - you were quickly my new favorite player to watch. Of all of the players this team has you have demonstrated the quintisential team first attitude in a me me me game. You have played this game with honor, passion, and humility; despite breaking record after record. It is refreshing and it gives me hope for the future of the game. You have thanked the fans on many occasions but it is we who should thank you. Thank you for sticking with this team and this city. Thank you for playing the game with the fervor of child. Thank you for allowing us to share in your Hall of Fame career. Thank you for doing it the right way. I will miss being able to watch you. Good luck to you and your family and I hope yo will remain with the Astros family and influence future generations who have the honor of putting on the uniform. Again, Thank you.

Wow! After reading that I have goosebumps and tears in my eyes! Good tears though. I am 23 years old and have been watching Biggio for literally as long as I can remember. The many games in the Astrodome...oh, those were the good ole days! And of course our beautiful Minute Maid Park as well. My heart is honestly so full of happiness for him. I am so proud of him! Biggio has been nothing but the BEST in my eyes...Best player, best role model...just an amazing person. I can only hope that when I have my own children there will be another wonderful, kind, genuine and GREAT player such as Biggio for him or her to watch such as I have been blessed to do so.
Craig,
I wish you and your family nothing but the best and thank you for being the wonderful person you are! In this world where so many people get caught up in the hustle and bustle of their daily lives, it's nice to know that there are wonderful people out there such as yourself whom has tons of money, yet still are so down to earth and kind and using that money to benefit others. You definitely are a true Texan at heart! ;) I will miss watching you play. I will miss shouting "Biggio! Biggio!" during the games, but I couldn't be happier for you! Again thank you for being the man/player/father/person/AMERICAN that you are! I have nothing but love and the up most respect for you! BEST WISHES!

Biggio,
You know that when I was growing up, I have to admit that I wasn't an Astros fan. Of course growing up in New York, its hard to hear anything about the Stros. But being here in Houston now for 10 years, I have never in my life seen a classier, true, and authentic ball player other than yourself. You bring the epitamie of what a baseball player should be. You're skills on the field are phenomenal. You're class towards the fans and the game is unmatched. You are one of the great treasures of America's Pasttime that will truly be missed. In an age of the great game where players treat the game more of a business, you've always kept it a game. The way it should be. You've shown that it is a kids game and played like a kid from age 20 to age 40. But time passes and each ball player must bow down when his time is at an end. But not all do it with such class and grace as you have done. From your charirty work to the hustle you show on the field, you bring every aspect of baseball to its summit. I wish you the best of luck in your life and may God continue to bless you and your family.

I still can't believe it. I was at your very first game as an Astro, and none to happy I will admit. I was a die hard Ashby fan. But you grew on me, and I have come to love watching you play. I grew up watching you, Bagwell, Cammi, and many others play. My brother has an old hat signed by the three of you. Some of our best child hood memories revolve around plays that were made, or games we attended. I was even blessed to know one of your Sunshine Kids in Jr. High School. She was one of my closest friends, who sadly lost her battle so many years ago. The Sunshine Kids gave her hope, and inspiration to fight- THANK YOU FOR THE WORK THAT YOU DO FOR THOSE CHILDREN THEY ARE SO SPECIAL.
Now, my five year old aspires to be just like you. I still haven't told him you are retiring, and really don't know how to. You are baseball to him.

Dear Craig Biggio
My name is William Cody Forrest and I remember the first time I ever went to an astros game. It was I beleive March or April of 1990. My mother took me to the game for a birthday present for my 13th birthday, she knew I collected baseball cards and that night they gave me a complete astros team set for being one of the first so many people in the park. She knew it would mean the world to me to see you play because I had more of your card than anybody else's and you were my favorite. Little did I know that she would not be there for the next birthday. She passed away on July the 10th at MD anderson in Houston. Since then I have been married and me and my wife remain astros fans and was there for the 18 inning game year before last and was there when you got the 3000th hit. I am 29 now and everytime I step in that ballpark and see you play not only do i feel like a kid again because of the emotions running rampid at Minute Maid but also because I remember my mother and how it meant so much to her to give me that last present of seeing you and the astros before she died. I will miss you, and you will always be at the TOP of the list in the hall of fame, and there will always be a #7 jersey hanging proudly in a glass frame in my house, and hopefully by the end of the year, I am able to attend enough games to add that long desired autograph to my collection. Thank you for evrything Biggio for doing everything you have done, with the kids, the fans, the game, and most of all my entire families heart because bee-live it or not you have touched our family like nobody else could and I hope someday when I have children that they have the same qualities you possess. Thank you again. See you august the 11th we have a church group coming to the family and faith day.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the memories and for the way you played the game. It was awesome to watch you all these years. Growing up I modeled you when I played the game. It is nice to see someone who is a true baseball player with respect for the game. Not many are left. You deserve to be in Cooperstown, you and Baggy together. I hope other players look at your career and do what you did; great numbers, playing for one team, and most of all playing the game the way it should be played. Thank you and enjoy your time with your wife and kids.

Dear Craig,
I was orginally a Cardinals fan being from STL but moved to Houston when I was 15 and became an Astros fan in 1985. I have watched you played and loved you all that time. You are a tremendous athlete and a very generous person. The Sunshine kids are a special group that you have done marvelous things for. I love the killer B's and was sadden when Bagwell left because I knew that you would be leaving soon. I am truly blessed to have been able to see you play. Congratulations on your 3,000th hit. I knew that you were going to do it the way that the announcers were talking. God bless you and your family in your new role. You are an awesome role model for our kids. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hey Craig, I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for the city of Houston, the Houston Astros organization, and for Astros fans worldwide.
I started following baseball in the late 80s as a young child, and you've been a part of every Astros team I've ever rooted for. I'll never forget the nights when my little brother and I would wait until our parents were asleep, and then sneak out of bed and crawl over to our television and watch your games on the west coast until well after midnight.
Your attitude, hustle, determination, and loyalty are things I'll try my best to instill in my newborn son. Unfortunately, he won't remember watching you, even though he's been with me in front of the television many times already! I will forever tell my son the tales of Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell, and how they played the game of baseball the way it was meant to be played: with desire, hustle, and passion 100% of the time.
Thank you again Craig. Next season just won't be the same, but I wish you all the best as you begin the next stage of your life. You will be missed!

About your children, to your wife you said "They are you. You raised them. I look in their eyes, and I see you." For the rest of my life, when I look at the face of our baseball players, I'll be looking for you, and hope I will see you. I will be looking for your legacy -- a player who personifies leadership, teamwork, dedication, love of his family, his team and his community. Thanks for your gift!

I have watched you ever since your entry into the league, and can not imagine baseball in Houston without you. You and Jeff have given so much to MLB, the city of Houston, and myself. Thank you. Thank you for staying all these years. That means a lot to me. Thinking about those countless times in the Dome and Minute Maid (and listening to Milo) yelling, "BGO" sitll gives me chills. And now that it's soon to end, I feel like I am losing a long time friend. I would not trade the last twenty years for the world, though. Thanks again and I wish you and your family the best. Wow! Thats about all I can say about yesterday. 20 years of Craig Biggio. All great things have to come to an end. I think hitting that game-winning Grand Slam was what your career has been all about. When you round third base for the last time and the dust flies up as you stomp triumphantly on home plate, rest assured that the fans in Houston and all over the world will be on their feet. The greatness you have brought to the Astros and to the game goes way beyond your stellar career numbers. You are truly a class act on and off the field. Devoting your time to the Sunshine Kids just shows how giving and caring of a person you are. I'll be watching when you are inducted into the Hall of Fame 5 years from now. Thanks for all the memories and for teaching this kid to love the game of baseball.

I grew up in Houston and have been a Stros fan all my life; there was nothing better than heading to the Dome with my mom to watch Bidge and Bags play the game the right way! The right side of the infield will never be the same in Houston without #5 & #7. I took my sister to Kissimmee this past spring, for one reason - to see Craig Biggio at Spring Training! I hope to see you coaching for the Stros one day and leading the younger bunch in the right direction. You will truely be missed by Astros fans - I look forward to telling the stories of the great Biggio to years to come. You are a hero in my books, we don't have many of them anymore. You have displayed dignity and honor to the game of baseball as a player and as a man, father and husband. The way you had your son's sitting next to you and the way you thanked your wife is something I will never forget. So many players in all types of sports now days make the career based on money. I moved to Houston in 1984, so I had a chance to witness the entirety of your MLB career. Of course it was an outstanding career by the numbers, but the greatest part is how you played hard and really wanted to win. Even now, I enjoy that you leg it out to first on a grounder. There are some players who don't. I wish you and your family a prosperous future.

I want to say that I've been a die hard Stro' fan for a long time going back to when it was you, Baggs, and Ken holding the infield down. I will miss seeing #7 on the field and your oh so dirty helmet at the plate. You are a true class act and I thank you for all the memories, effort and excitement you brought to all the Astros fans. Sorry you never got the ring, but I'm glad you and Baggs got to play in the World Series. I remember the true killer B's. Biggio, Bagwell, Bell, and Berkman. Hey, Craig. Over the years I've heard my Dad comment about watching certain Hall of Famers during their careers and before you and I were born. Would like to take this chance to say that it has been an honor watching you play. I wasn't much for baseball but I would always say the Astros were my team. When the subject came up Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell, were the first people to come to my mind. Catching a baseball on TV out in a ranch town is hard enough, so imagine the feeling I got when I moved to Houston and went to my very first Astros game. From there on, baseball has been my life.
On June 28th, my wife and I stood all 15 innings of this game to see an episode in baseball that has only happened 26 other times. It was an amazing game where only you could have proven that with hard work, determination, and respect for the game, could lead to mile stone in a players carreer. I was blessed to witness a Hall of Famer Born.
From me and I'm sure all the Astros fans around the world, THANK YOU Craig and Bagwell. Be happy in your retirement with your family. God Bless. See you in Cooper's Town!

Craig,
Thank you for all the memories; I became an Astros fan because of you and Bagwell. When my son was born I knew he would be a fan but I never imagined how big of a fan he would be. He memorized the channels the game would come on, and # 7 and # 5 where the first numbers he learned. He still gets so excited every time you walk on the field. He’s always wanted a signed baseball from you, but we never have gotten close enough to get one. But we have so many great memories. I feel blessed as a parent that he has such great people to look up to in the sport. Thank you for being such a great role model for kids and adults alike. This city is lucky to have an athlete like you. You are a true class act and we will certainly miss seeing you on the field.
Thanks for so many wonderful memories!! Enjoy your family and retirement you deserve it.

Dear Craig,
You should be very proud of the career you've had. You certainly played the game the right way. You respected it. I, like many others, thank you for that. On a recent trip to Chicago my dad and I waited outside by the bus hoping to get your autograph. You've been my favorite player since I was 3, when my dad took me to my first baseball game. After the sweep, many guys were reluctant to sign or even look up at the crowd of fans. However, you came over and took the time to sign. Thank you for signing that day, it made my trip. I'll be off at college in September when you play your final game. But you can bet I'll be making the 5 hour drive back to Houston to be at Minute Maid Park on September 30th.
The city of Houston and the baseball community have been blessed to have you here for 20 years. You and your family have great class and go about business the right way. Thanks for all the memories.
God Bless,
Kara

'Thanks' hardly seems like a big enough word to express 20 years of watching "our" B G O play his heart out! That said, THANKS for your blood, sweat and these days near-tears, Mr. Biggio!
I've always fondly called you 'pigpen' and marveled at the ability of the folks that keep YOUR uniforms clean! You could of made a mint speaking for Tide!
I look forward to your continued presence in the Astros organization both on and off the field. Me and 42k plus will be there that last day cheering our hearts out and wiping our own tears away! Until then, go get 'em!
Thanks to MLB et al. for this chance to say goodbye and tell you how much we love the way you love the game!

Thanks for all the memories that you have given us fans during your 20 year carrer. I enjoyed watching my favorite player reaching one of the greatest milestones ever, 3000 hits. I will miss watching you run onto the field every game first, as well as chanting BIGGIO. God Bless your family for sticking with you throughout your carrer. Hope to see you in cooperstown where you will finish your carrer back home.
Thank You,

Craig,
Thank you for all the wonderful memories. My family has followed Astros baseball since the very beginning. My parents and I were at the first game in the Astrodome, and my husband and I brought my mom to the last game there. I can think of few players that have played in Houston with a following such as you. We have watched you play from the beginning of your career and can't imagine that it has been 20 years and it's time to let you go. I believe that you are the heart and soul of the Houston Astros and it will never be the same without the spirit, drive, spunk and smile that you bring to the field everyday. I wish you and your family every happiness and I am so pleased that you will continue with the Astros organization, but you will be greatly missed. Enjoy!!

Dear Craig,
I can't believe that you're retiring from the game but I'm wishing you a blessed post retirement life. We were Long Island neighbors when we were kids; you were raised in Smithtown I was right next door in Nesconset! However, we moved to Garden City in '77 before I started middle school.
Back in 2000, I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Cami at Shea Stadium; this was all set up by Chaplain Gene. I was a survivor of brain cancer and meeting him was my only wish. (In July, 1987 he had given me a baseball he had been using with Glenn Davis during bp and since that time, he had an admirer for life. I met the entire team and spent time w/Cami in the clubhouse area, on the field during batting practice and in the dugout. He had mentioned to me how he wished that I could have met you but you were on the DL with a knee injury. He had told me about the friendship you'd both shared for many years and how you guys went hunting & fishing together and established property called "Cambo". I'd have to say that he had to have been the nicest person I'd ever met in my life. Unfortunately, I was unable to make contact with him when he hit rock bottom. To this day, I'll try to watch every Astros game on MLBTV; the players are all different than the ones I'd met, excluding Berkman; Bagwell also, but he has retired. The "Killer B's" are no longer but I want to truly wish you the happiest and most blessed retirement; your absence in the game will certainly be noticed! Hold onto the memories; they're so very priceless! May God bless you, Patty and your four children with health and infinite laughter! I'll miss you! The best of luck! Mia

Craig, you are one of my favorites. I became a fan 20 years ago, about the time your career began. I talked with you at Spring training several times and you were always so friendly. I asked your favorite word this past spring and you said they were "please and thank you". Please know that all of us "oldies" love you and are praying for you and thank you for a wonderful 20 years. Love you,Shirley, the old lady with the orange hat

Dear Craig,
I want to say congratulations to you and your family for such a successful and fulfilling life and career. I do not know you personally but that is what you reflect every time I turn on that TV to watch the ASTROS play. I am an ASTROS fan to the core, win or lose. My father used to take us to the Astrodome when I was a little girl. At, 35 now, I don't miss a beat. If I miss a game on TV, I'm catching up on Astros.com. Thanks for the memories. I truly enjoy watching you play.
I will miss you.

There are so many wonderful moments that you have given Houston. The Killer B's will not be the same with out you. I hope that we (houston) still get to see you at the stadium. We will miss you so much. Congratulations on the great 20 years of baseball!! God Bless and Good Luck in everything.

One of my very earliest memories is my dad taking me and my brother to a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium (the old, old Busch Stadium -- Grand Avenue) in St. Louis. I was very little, three I think. There was an older gentleman at the ballpark signing autographs, and people were lined up. That must have impressed me, because I remember pestering my dad about who the man was and why people wanted him to sign things. Dad bought a baseball, and got it autographed. Turns out the gentleman was one of the greatest second basemen ever - Rogers Hornsby. That was the beginning for me of my life-long love of baseball, and I still treasure that ball. The night you hit your 3000th, my Dad called. He said Rogers was going to have to move over for THE greatest second baseman ever, Craig Biggio. I second that. I've lived in Houston and followed your career since 1989. Every year on opening day my favorite sight has been you stretching on the field before the game, one leg straight out front, one knee back, and doing your scissor kicks, because that meant all was right with the world and the fun was about to begin! I'm going to miss that and so much more, but I respect the heck out of you for going out this way.
Thanks, Bidge, for all you've done for the team and the fans, and for being one of the best boys of summer ever.

And please, come back to the park often, will you, like Rogers did, to sign autographs for impressionable three-year olds.
Thanks again.

Mr. Biggio,
The things you did for Houston, along with Bagwell, will never be forgotten. I used to go to atleast one game a week with my dad back in the Astrodome when they had the pavilion seats with the general admission. That was great. And you and Bagwell were always the constant. I remember in 2004 when Houston won our first playoff series against the Braves (finally) and the whole team was going crazy. I sat there looking for you and Bagwell and you guys just shook hands and hugged. That is what sets you two apart from the crowd. That was an amazing thing to see. After all the disappointing post-seasons. Like in 1999 (or was in 98?) when we had Randy Johnson and the best Houston team ever put together. We had the bases loaded, no outs and down by one and Walt Wiess made that spectacular dive to double up Caminiti and Eusebio. But we finally did it. And of course the World Series run in 05. It was so fitting for you and Bagwell to play in a World Series together. You did play the game the right way. You didn't need steroids or corked bats to do what you did. Neither did Bagwell. That is the reason why Houston is the best baseball town in America!
I am going to miss seeing you and Bagwell at first and second every day. Those where the good old days. Now I can look forward to Berkman and Burke.
PS. Can't wait to see you behind the plate on September 30th. Even if the Braves are still in it you should still do it! Your Craig Biggio. You deserve it!

Dear Craig,
In your kind words and numerous "thank you's" to all those surrounding you, as a life-long die-hard Astros fan, I want to THANK YOU for exemplifying how a baseball player should act both on and off the field. In today's world, I wish there were more sports figures like yourself and your playing buddy Bags that youngsters could look up to. You have provided so many thrills to your fans and we will miss you. I know Lance and Hunter and the rest of the Astros will try to continue your example of giving 110% and setting the tone for up & coming players to follow also.
Enjoy life at home with your family after this season. You have deserved some rest! See you at Cooperstown!
Thanks again,
Geoffrey

Craig,
I cried when I saw your press conference re: your retirement. I know all good things must come to an end. You did play the game the right way in an era where so many players are using self enhancing substances. I feel honored to be able to watch you play. You are the heart and soul of the Astros! I can say that since I am only one year younger than you. I have seen a lot of guys play this game. I am so looking forward to the day that you are inducted into the Hall Of Fame!
You will be missed. You have sacrificed so much for us watching you play. Now it is time to spend your life w/ your family. But you did it right. You did it your way and you went out on top! In that regard you remind me a lot of Roger Staubach and how he played the game...the right way.
Take care, you will be missed!

You are a true inspiration for young kids girls and boys. The way you conduct yourself on and off the field is remarkable. My daughter and I are your biggest fans. She plays softball and always gets #7 on her uniform. I can't think of anyone better I would want her to have as a role model. She told me we had to go see you play 1 more time before the end of the season so she can see you play. I hope I can make that happen for her. It has been great watching you play all these years. The 3000th hit was an exceptional game for you. We are going to miss seeing you and Bagwell in the Astros Uniforms. Bagwell is my other daughters favorite. We will miss seeing the Killer B's in action. Good Luck on your Retirement!

Dear Mr. Biggio,
My name is Chelsea and I am 16 years old.You are my favorite player. I have loved watching you play since I was little. I hope you are happy when you retire. You deserve it. My family is from Brooklyn, NY, so my grandfather was a HUGE Brooklyn Dogers fan. He always said that when he was a kid he wanted to be Duke Snider or Gil Hodges when he grew up. They were his heros. He played in the minors but was hit by a drunk driver on his way to a game and broke his neck. Then the Dogers left Brooklyn. He says baseball "left his life"...but he loves to watch you play. It fills a gap for him that has always been there since he quit playing. Thank you for that. In my english class my freashmen year we had to read a book about superman and then write a paper about it. I dont remember the book at all but I remember my paper. I wrote about how everyone had their own superman that they worshiped and counted on. Duke Snider was my grandfathers superman. Gil Hodges was my grandmothers. I dont want to say good buy to you, I dont want you to leave, but you deserve to retire and I wish you and your family the best. If you ever read this I just wanted to say:
Thank you for being my superman.

Craig,
I've been a fan since the 45's days, and I can say without hesitation that you have represented your team and your city with more class and honor than any predecessor. I still like Dierk, and Joe Morgan was a class guy, but you're a lifer and as a fan, that kind of loyalty to the team and to us is so very special and uncommon anymore. You will be the standard against which all future Astros will be measured, and rightly so. Best wishes for retirement, though my fantasy is for you to come back one of these days and sit in the skipper's seat.

Craig,
It is we Astro's fans that thank you for being the loyal player you have been. As a parent you are a player that you are ok with your child admiring. I have to say I cried when I watched your news conference yesterday and was not looking forward to breaking the news to my 11 year old daughter Shelby. When I did tell her the news she cried for about a hour. She idolizes you and what you stand for in a baseball player. She would give her last dime for a baseball card of yours (like she needs another one). We have two dogs and they are named Craig and Biggio. For Christmas this year I found a great signed picture of you and Bagwell that she also cherishes. Her night was made last night when you hit your grand slam. What a year you have had in 07. You have a life that you should be truly proud of. You will be missed but not forgotten by your fans but a great life lies ahead for you. Your family that is going to have their dad right there with them. Good Luck to you Craig and God Bless You.

Bidge, What can I say? I watched you at your press conference yesterday, I was there for your 3000th hit, and will be there many more times this year to go and watch "Mr. Baseball" himself. You have been such a hero to me and this entire city, along with anyone who is a baseball fan. I will be there during your last game, standing the whole time. This whole city loves you, and you will never be forgotten. Your season will be emotional enough to choke up a grown man. Many tears will be shed by all. Thanks for the memories Craig.

Craig . . What a day yesterday was . . I've cried selfishly because I won't be able to watch you play after this season . . . and because I am so happy for you and your beautiful family. I'd like to thank you for your dedication, passion for the game, love for others both on and off the field and the way you've played this great game. Most people think about young boys being inspired most by you and I'm sure they are, but you implanted a deep desire for hard work and dedication in my daughter throughout her softball career and I thank you for that too. Next year won't be the same - first Bags and now BGO - I hope you and Bags both stay affiliated with this great organization for many years. Lastly, I'd like to thank your beautiful wife and children for sharing you with all of your fans. THANK YOU! and GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

Craig,
I don't know what to say that has not already been said time and time again. I remember those days in the late 80s in the dome and listened to the games I could not attend. Now living in the Dallas area, I watch my Astros on TV anytine they are on up here. I just want to say "THANK YOU" for all the memories you have given me as an Astros player. It truly will not be the same without seeing you somewhere on that field, but I know all good things must come to an end.
Thank you for your passion. the way you played the game, and hustled out every play.
Thank you for the work you have done off the field with the Sunshine Kids. Cooperstown is calling, Craig, and I know that in five years your phone will be ringing and the announcement will be made "welcome to the Baseball Hall of fame"
Thank you for everything, Craig. You are indeed a CLASS ACT and will be greatly missed. Enjoy the rest of your time with your family.
AND to Patty and the rest of the family... Thank you for shating Craig with us for these past 20 years.

When you announced your retirement,
I wished for time to stop,
but I can't, so for all my tears,
I will be needing a mop.
Such a sweet mixture,
in every bittersweet tear,
combining every happy memory,
with every Astros' fans' worst fear.
I can't help but hold on,
to that .01 percent,
cause I honestly don't know,
where those 20 seasons went.
Above all, a great player,
you always came through in the clutch,
we're all going to miss you,
you'll never really know just how much.
My eyes might mist up,
every time I see you step up to the plate,
to get another hit,
another moment, another great.
You wanted it to be why?
Instead of a soul-crushing when?
so the only adjective available,
is admirable, to the very end.
Last night you hit a grandslam,
it was one I won't forget,
you've given us so much,
and we are all in debt.
But let the truth be known,
you know how to play some ball,
and hands down you have been,
one of the goodest guys of all.
I can't believe it's here,
you've been quite a guy,
I never thought that now,
would be the time to say goodbye.
I have come to understand,
that a good thing can't last forever,
and after watching you play,
I know your career has been one of those endeavors.
You gave Baseball your life,
devoted countless hours,
but, most of all,
you let yourself be ours.
You were just an Astro,
but so much more than that,
you were one forever,
until the very last at bat.
When I'm watching a Biggio-less game,
there will be a missing part,
and I know what it will be,
a piece of my heart...
Love, Brittney Stewart, You were one of the good guys, and I was one of the fans.
Thank you. Those words don't say enough, but I hope the poem will :)

BIG-GI-O...i didn't know what to call you, actually (Mr. Biggio, Craig, Bidge), so i thought this would work ok. :-) i have chanted that more times than i can remember - i even do it at the house in front of the tv (some may think it's obnoxious, but i really do and have pulled for you, over the years). i am actually nervous typing this right now and kind of at a loss for words. i have to admit that as sad as i am to see you go (yes, i have cried...and don't mind admitting it - my friends have to, don't let them fool you...), i am so very happy for you and your family. enjoy this time with them and cherish the time you have - i know you will. you have been, and always will be, my favorite player of all time. i appreciate the memories and the way you play the game. it's the right way - and that doesn't get old to say, or hear. that one phrase means so much and speaks volumes of your character, dedication and commitment to the game. again, i still have chills writing this. thank you, thank you, thank you...and congratulations on a remarkable career (i agree with drayton...this season isn't quite over yet!) enjoy your time away from the game...and it sure would be nice to see...oh, i dunno, maybe you and bags and brad in houston astros uniforms again one day...maybe from the dugout?? just a thought... :-)

Dear Mr. Biggio,
When I heard that you are retiring, I cried. I cried because you are leaving, but also because I know what a wonderful gift you have been given. You get to stay home and just be with your family. Whether you know it or not, you, as well as the rest of the Astros, have been members of my family as well. My husband and I had our fist date at Minute Maid Park, we take my sons to a game for their birthday. When my youngest son, Nathan was 4 he was about to play his 1st T-ball game when he ran up to me and said, "Mommy I'm #5 and I play 1st base like Jeff Bagwell! I'm gonna be just like him!" But now that he's 7 and plays 2nd base and center field, he says that he wants to be just like you. Thank you so much for being a wonderful role model for our children. Both on and off the field, you show kids what it is like to be a good athelete, but also a great man.
Thank you to Mrs. Biggio, and the children. Thank you for sharing your husband/dad with us. May God continue to bless you!
Sincerely,
Christina & Michael Leisk & Matthew and Nathan Williams

This one might be a bit long but I hope you'll bear with me.
In 1988 I took my three week old baby boy to his first Astros game. My family accompanied me as usual because Astros games were always family outings. At this game we got the chance to see a fresh faced young catcher get his first hit. My sister said to me "He's going to be fun to watch." That was you of course. We have attended hundreds of games since then including opening day for 22 straight years (a streak that we broke this year because of unforeseen circumstances) and the final game of the season in most of those years. We were there to see you ride the motor cycle around the Dome and we were there to see the banners unfurled in Enron/Minute Maid. It has to say the least been an emotional roller coaster.
A few weeks ago my sister was back in MD Anderson continuing a 7 year battle with cancer. They explained it was time to "treat the symptoms not the cancer". We came home and arranged hospice care on Tuesday the 26th. My mother had on a whim gotten tickets to the game on the 28th. I didn't think we were going to be able to go, but my sister, Robyn, insisted even as sick as she was. We went and I was just sure we were going to miss your 3000th by one night. When you got the hit in the 7th inning the whole crowd was going nuts. My sister and I could do nothing but stand there and hug and cry. The whole stadium was screaming and cheering and we were just silently crying thanking God that we got to share this final baseball moment together. You of course had no idea but you gave me the greatest blessing just by playing the game "the right way." Even as I type this we are in the last hours of my sister's life and she is awaiting her final rest wrapped in her favorite Astros blanket.
God bless you, Craig. You were more than a ball player to us and I can never tell you enough what you meant to us. sp

Dear Mr. Biggio,
Wow!..I really don't know what to say other than thank you for 20 years of being an awesome example of class. You always played the game the right way and never complained you just went out there and played ball. And I will be there on September 30th to see your last game as an Astro, and I will also be at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony to see you getting inducted as a first ballot hall of famer!! Thank you so very much!!

P.S. Any chance of Biggio in the White House?..Biggio for President!!..well I hope to see you in some capacity with the Astros for a long time after your playing days..maybe as a manager?..imagine it Biggio the manager, Bagwell the hitting coach and Ausmus the Bench coach..wow!..

As a baseball fan, a dad and a coach; I want to say thank you. When my son first started to play the game I would sit with him and watch you play. Every time you ran out a grounder or hustled on defense I said "That is how you should always play the game son". You have been an inspiration to me both as a coach for young players learning the game and as a father. Again "Thank You!" for being a great example and a true inspiration.
Good luck with your future, and with the family.

Craig,
What can I say? First of all, thank you for your loyalty to the Astros and staying with us your entire career. I attended the 1st game played by the Colt .45s in 1962 and have been hooked ever since. I have always looked up to you - as a man and a ballplayer. I proudly wear your jersey and will continue to do so - you will never be forgotten! I had the privilege of meeting Monsignor Jamail and I know you were a great friend of his. How proud he must be as he looks down on you today. I hope the Astros have plans for you in the future - you will always be MVP in my book and I plan to be in Cooperstown 5 years from now when you take your rightful place in baseball history.

We are soooooo proud of you and your accomplishments with the Astros. We have been to and watched every game that we could and feel as if we know you on a personal level. We think you are AWESOME and wish you nothing but happiness. Most of all WE WILL MISS YOU TERRIBLY! You undoubtedly will go down in baseball history as a GREAT PLAYER and a wonderful human being. Thank you for 20 super years of your life. YOU ROCK!!

Craig,
Thank you so much for the wonderful years you've given to the Astros and to us, the fans. You've been an inspiration to watch. We moved to Colorado a bit over two years ago, so we don't get out to see you guys regularly (though we are still holders of the weekend mini-season package!). We have watched you since you came into the majors; all we can hope now is that current and future players will be as inspired by you as we--and millions of others--have been. As much as you will miss the game and all that it represents, we will miss you that much and more. We also thank your family for supporting you through all of the years and sharing you with all of us.

Craig,
My wife and I had the honor of meeting you and Bags in Waco when yall were inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. You treated us with the utmost repsect as we entered into casual conversation. You and Bags are exeptional people, the effect you have had on this club is immeasurable- you have created a legacy for generations to follow, on and off the field.
Enjoy your family.

Dear Craig,
My family and I just wanted you to know what a great inspiration you have been to my boys. We have attended the Sunshine Kids banquet for many years and of course many, many Astros games. What a unbelieveable ride is right. You are truly blessed to have been given so many gifts and the best part about that is your ability to give back and share your heart with so many us. You have touched our lives and we will never forget you. I always tell my boys we're making memories every time we do things together and part of those memories will always be about you. Look forward to the rest of the season it should be fun. Best wishes, The Heffernan's

Craig,
I did not think I could ever get emotional about baseball as I have become very cynical of late with all the greed, steroids, and bad behavior in pro sports. I guess I was wrong. I will miss your hard-nosed play and no-nonsense style. Good Luck with all you do from here on in. (BTW: I think you can be an awesome manager some day. Hopefully in Houston.)

in 1987 i got married and i have to admit i knew nothing about baseball, but through the years i have become a bigger fan than my husband. i can remember going to the games and watching this skinny young thing catch and wonder how he would survine in the league. then we watched you move to second base. for years we watched you lead the team out, step on first base, then throw the ball to bagwell. we missed that when you were moved to center field. you will always represent the astros and what is best about baseball. you are a player that everyone can look up to and emulate. in the day of drugs, cheaters and illegal activity you will be missed not only as an outstanding baseball player but also an example for our children. i wish you and your family the best and god bless.

CRAIG THANK YOU for 20 h.o.f. seasons the way you carried yourself on and off the field is truly something you should be proud of!!!And also your parents Mr.&Mrs. biggio you deserve a round of applause for raising a fine human being!I have been a life long astros fan ever since 1980 when the phillies beat them in the nlcs!!I've gone through all the heartbreak over the years and you and #5
have made me the happiest astros fan east of the mississippi!!Whenever the stros came to town i was there with my full astros gear on cheering you guys on despite the philly natives!!I was there this season at citizens bank park when you led off the game with a hr.And my only opportunity to visit minute maid park was last year at the home opener against fla. and we won 1-0 when you scored on a wild pitch but the thing i will remember most is when they introduced JEFF then YOU and to see the crowd reaction knowing it was the last time the KILLER BEE'S would be on the same field for opening day.The raising of our first NL PENNANT meant nothing as compared to the embrace of#7 for the last time on opening day and the deafing cheers in the park that night!!!THANKS CRAIG & your wife & kids for sharing you with the rest of us for all seasons!!! GOD BLESS!!!

Craig,
I have followed the Astros literally my whole life. I started watching when I was 8 years old when my mother took me to my very first Astros game in the Astrodome. I am 29 now. And still follow everyday. I have often dreamed about being an Astro. With the exception of the very first year. The name Craig Biggio has been associated every day of my "Astros Life". Even on my Myspace page under "people i would like to meet" is the name Craig Biggio.
After your announcement yesterday. My eyes watered. When Lamb was walked to load the bases and you hit the Slam, I cried. No.7 is immortal.
I live 200 miles from Houston. I get to as many games as I can. Told my brother just last night after your announcement that we will get to at least one more game, I have to see my hero play once more.
Thank you so much for the last 20 years. I will continue to follow the Astros every day. On and off season. It will not be the same without seeing No.7 take the field. You will be missed sir.
God Bless,
Travis Smith

Thank you for what you have meant to this city. Thank you for playing the game the right, classy way. There are no others like you and there will never be. You and Jeff Bagwell are the reasons I love the game and I love the Astros. It just won't be the same without you. Thank you for your loyalty to our humid city, to a team that, well, once wasn't worth being loyal to, thank you for thinking of your fans, and for your character on and off the field.

Thank you for all of the wonderful years of great playing. Your loyalty to the team and the game of baseball is so wonderful and remarkable. You are a great role model for anyone. It will definitely be a different experience going to the ballpark and not seeing you play. Also thankyou for all of your hardwork with sunshine kids. As a physical therapist and an athletic trainer who work with children with disabilities reguarly it is good to see people who work hard to support children who have been striken with illness. You will be greatly missed. Thanks for all of the memories.

I'm not much with words but I just wanted to say how much you mean to us. You are what baseball should be. You are a hero and inspiration to kids and that is what a ballplayer should be. I truly can't think of many players that can hold a candle to you. Thank you for your devotion to the game, the Astros, your fans and your family. You'll be missed but I hope that you will remain with the Astros in some capacity..... manager maybe somday. ; ) Take care! Bridget - Galveston

Over the past few years I've always been asked who my favorite player has been. I would just rattle off a few names that sounded right, but was never really satistfied with my answer. But as i look back at all the things you've done, (and what a mighty list it is) not only for the astros, but for the people allaround you, it makes me realize who my true favorite player is. You play everyday as if it is your last and didn't need to make 25 million a year to do it. If I ever made it to the bigs, I want to be remebered like you always will be. For playing the game how it's suppose to be played. Thank You for all that you have done!

Craig,I have been a basball fan since the days of the Houston Buffs. Never have I seen a player who meant so much to his team, his town, and his fans as you. There have been others that are dear to the hearts of Houston fans, such as Cammy, Nolan, Jose Cruz, and of course Bags, but you have been # 1 from the start. Your are "homegrown". When you had your chance at Free Agency to go Colorado, you stayed and the love we had for you turned into adoration. Your legacy was sealed. What other ACTIVE players have been honored with statues of themselves outside their home ballpark. They talk about records never being broken. I say you have a few that may never be surpassed.
I thank you for your dedication to the game and the way it should be played. As a fan a better player to watch is hard to find. As a humanitarian you are without equal. I hope to be in Cooperstown to see you 5 years from this weekend. Last but not least my thanks to Patty and the kids for sharing you these last 20 years.Good luck and God Bless

Craig,
I remember when you first started playing for the Astros. My oldest son was 4 years old. He and I both have watched you for all these years. You are what Baseball is all about. We will miss you, but you need time with your family before those beautiful children grow up and go off on their own. You will always be in our hearts and when the word 'Baseball' is mentioned we will think of you. Take care and enjoy your family.

Wow. Just wow. Craig, you're one of the first players from "my time" to retire. That means I watched your first at bat and I'll try to watch your last. Although my heart rests with the Cubs, I respect what you have done for this game.
I look forward to seeing you around All-Star festivities and your Hall of Fame induction.
May God continue to bless you and your family.

Biggio #7,
You are the absolute definition of what a baseball player is and should be. There's not enough guys out there anymore with your work ethic and flat out respect for the game anymore. I became an instant Astros fan when I was 7 yrs old in 87', and I have had the pleasure to watch you throughout your excellent career. Thanks for all of the great memories and it will not be the same not seeing you out there every night. Enjoy spending time with your family and God Bless.
Take it easy,
Daniel

As a child I was never much of a sports fan, much to my father's disappointment. When I was ten he took me (against my will I’m sure) to my first Astros’ game. Even though I had little interest in the game I remember admiring the huge grin on your face after getting a base hit. I watched several more games with my father that year and continued to be captivated by a skinny young catcher with a childlike enthusiasm and a constant smile.
It’s hard to believe that was 20 years ago and the boy who resisted going to the Astrodome is now a baseball fan and enjoys nothing more in life that splitting a 6 pack and watching the game with my father. So, I feel compelled to say, Mr. Biggio, it was watching you play everyday that made me love the game. And for that sir, I will be forever in your debt.
Thank you for the memories. In my mind neither the team, nor the game of baseball will ever be the same without you.
God Bless,
David
